Bring history back to life through Jim Hodges’ historically accurate, exciting, and edifying audio recordings.

It’s the time of the English Civil War in 1642. Harry Furness is a Cavalier fighting for the king; his friend, Herbert Rippinghall, sides with the Roundheads in opposition. Oliver Cromwell leads the rebels aligned against the king and his admittedly tyrannical rule, but ends up imposing his own!

Most of the story follows Harry Furness and the campaigns which take him all over the British Isles and the high seas, right through his capture at Drogheda and enslavement in Bermuda. Both Harry and Herbert live to see the end of the conflict and the new royal order.

About the Author

George Alfred Henty (1832–1902) was a prolific English novelist and war correspondent. He is best known for his historical adventure stories for boys that were popular in the late nineteenth century.

About the Narrator

Jim Hodges began reading aloud in the second grade with a stirring rendition of Dick and Jane. He continued to volunteer to speak throughout his schooling years, performed as a newscaster while in the Navy, and participated in community theater groups. His wife, Monica, once asked what his dream job would be. He answered, “I’d record books.” And so began Jim Hodges Audio Books, producing unabridged recordings of the G. A. Henty historical novels, children’s books, Overtly Christian titles, and classic literature.
