Publisher Description

Ty Lewis is ecstatic when the school coach recruits him for the football team. Unfortunately, Ty's Uncle Gus has other plans for him - namely, scrubbing toilets for Gus's cleaning service. Ty's only relief from his oppressive uncle comes in the too-rare times he can spend with his big brother, Thane, a college football star who's headed for the NFL.

But when Uncle Gus gets involved with the local mob boss, a man called Lucy, and Lucy finds out how famous Thane is, things begin to spiral out of control. As the tension ratchets up, Ty finds himself trapped in a dangerous web. The stakes are high, and one false move on Ty's part could destroy his brother's future.

" A boy named Ty is being recruited by his couch for the football team. His gardian Uncle Gus won't let him play because he needs Ty to work to get money. When Ty's brother Thane comes for his visit Uncle Gus has him ask questions about fantasy football. Thane has no idea that Uncle Gus is getting paid to know this information. Ty gets to play football and Thane helps him to get better. Uncle Gus gets caught and they end up in protection from other dealers for money. "

" Here's a book that I think kids will like. It is fast-paced with short chapters and a good dose of insider football talk - at the game level and at the pro-football lifestyle level. It also has danger/suspense as mob sports betting is at the heart of the plot. "

" Unfourtnately, at the very start of this book, it was so much like Football Genius that I had to try to figure out if I'd already read it. It was just SO similar. While I still enjoyed it and read it all quite happily Mr. Green's work is just too much alike for me to reccomend. Totally a kid's book, which is okay, but just be aware. Unless you're between 8-10 (boy) I wouldn't even reccomend trying it out. A kid boy's book. Not for girls, which is okay. Just don't tell me I didn't warn you. (don't get all mad, there are books specifically for different genders and don't read this just to prove you're a tom boy *sigh*) I picked this up cuz' I read Football Genius which was again in the "just ok" catagory, but I thought I could go for an easy read. Very good for reluctant readers. Don't get me wrong, it's good writing if you only read one book, just don't expect variations in the story line. Just OK. "

" My first SSYRA grade 6-8 book of the year done. Reading these with my daughter. This one was ok. "You can accomplish anything and make the best of a bad situation" type of book. Not just a sports book. Some nice action and edge of your seat thrown in too...well, for a 6th grader. "

" I thought that this was a good book because it was a boy who never got to see his star brother until he was famous because his uncle wanted to use him for his money. It was also good because it was about a boy named Ty who always got picked on until he was a very good football player. "
