"I enjoyed this 2nd book in Lyn Austins series. This book was about the main character in the 1st book's cousin. I really enjoy reading about the other side of the story...the first book was about the confederates side and experiences but this one is about Julia Hoffman, the cousin, who enrolls to be a nurse and goes against society to follow her heart. It also tells this story of a young woman who pretends to be a Union officer and then their stories combine to enhance the tale. I thought it was a good sequel to the first part of the story. now onto the next..."

— Rachel, 12/5/2013" I just loved this book. I stayed up all night finishing it. It is written so beautifully and vividly, you feel as if you are there experiencing right along with the characters. And I loved how I went from not really caring for Julia in the first book because of her selfishness to absolutely loving her and Phoebe in this book. I also love the way so much history is weaved into the story. It was funny because I had just been studying Dorthea Dix with my daughter and then there she is in this story. Wonderful story and I can't wait to read the next. "
