Lauren DeStefano's Wither was called a "thought-provoking debut, reminiscent of The Handmaid's Tale" by Kirkus Reviews. Its chilling follow-up, Fever continues 16-year-old Rhine's tale-set in a dark future in which men and women die by age 25, and young girls are sold into marriage to keep the population growing. Rhine has finally escaped her marriage. But what hope can the outside world offer when death looms ever closer?

"What can I say? In the end, I loved this novel as much as the first one in the series. I do admit being confused at times over where the author was going with - SPOILER - Rhine's mysterious sickness - it seemed to come out of nowhere and to lead to nowhere, taking up what seemed to be an unnecessarily long time in the plot-line. At first, I thought that it was just Rhine self-indulging in her sorrow, but before too long it became clear that it was something much more sinister and terrifying. Be prepared, this installment is probably even more somber and sad than the first one. Toward the end, it became purely terrifying. Yet Rhine remained as real and vibrant of a character as she ever was, one spot of light in the gruesome world she inhabits. You root for her, and you do it with all your heart. I applaud the author for dealing with such dark themes, never relenting and sugaring things up. I can honestly say that I cannot wait to find out how Rhine's story turns out in the next book. I can only hope that she will have her triumphs, however small."

— Allie, 12/6/2013" This book was a sad continuation of the beautifully written first book. It jumped all over the place and would not allow my attention be focused on one thing and one thing only. The third book better be much better than this otherwise this series has went downhill fast. "

— Lisa, 12/3/2012" I think this book is almost 4 stars. I enjoyed it for the same reasons I enjoyed the first... though I found some of the twists in the story incredibly frustrating. Overall enjoyable and thought provoking. There is a review by "Eunice" that I largely agree with. "
— Chelsey, 12/3/2012" Picks up towards the end, but boy was the beginning a slog to get through. I really enjoyed Wither, so this was a disappointment for me. I'll stick around for the finale, but I'm not exactly on pins and needles. "
