The Irish writer Bram Stoker brought to light hidden fears when he created the character of Count Dracula, a vampire that has to feed himself on human blood to survive. This is a classic of horror literature.

" My, my, my. I read 188 pages out of the 308 and couldn't bear to read another page. After months of trying to get through this, I had to stop. Dreadfully boring and not entertaining in the least. And, yes, I'm not a fan of science fiction or fantasy, and since this, too, was completely unbelievable, I couldn't take anymore. "
