Set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine
Master storyteller Stephen King presents the classic #1 New York Times bestseller about a mysterious store than can sell you whatever you desire—but not without exacting a terrible price in return.
The town of Castle Rock, Maine has seen its fair share of oddities over the years, but nothing is as peculiar as the little curio shop that’s just opened for business here. Its mysterious proprietor, Leland Gaunt, seems to have something for everyone out on display at Needful Things…interesting items that run the gamut from worthless to priceless. Nothing has a price tag in this place, but everything is certainly for sale. The heart’s desire for any resident of Castle Rock can easily be found among the curiosities…in exchange for a little money and—at the specific request of Leland Gaunt—a whole lot of menace against their fellow neighbors. Everyone in town seems willing to make a deal at Needful Things, but the devil is in the details. And no one takes heed of the little sign hanging on the wall: Caveat emptor. In other words, let the buyer beware…

"Finished her up this morning and it left me thinking "no more Castle Rock?" I'd have to say that this one keeps the reader wide awake with questions in your mind mulling things around constantly. This is one of the most riveting works that SK has put out even if it isn't one of the newest ones. It maintains that we all see our "Needful Things" in different lights and in rose tinted glasses."

“The old horrormaster in top form.”
— Kirkus Reviews“Tremendous…wonderful…one of King’s best.”
— Kirkus Reviews" Stephen King at his best. Mr Gaunt is also one of his best villains. "
— Brien, 7/19/2017" Longtime constant reader (listener for the purposes of this :) I have had many rounds with this little gem, have owed the book for years and now have the pleasure of listening to the King himself tell me the story. And what a story it is! has something for everyone, delightfully evil! "

— Marie, 2/14/2017" Truely a good read, hard to get into at first but decently good story which is developing well. I'm really interested to how it all will end ^^ "
— Angel, 2/17/2014" Predictable nonsense. I'd prefer 70s and early 80s King rather than late 80s onwards. "
— Pimpawan, 2/9/2014" omg this is soooo boring "
— edna, 2/6/2014" I thought this one was good up until the... "
— Carol, 2/3/2014" I think a potentially terrifyingly accurate portrait of small town America. I'm just glad that my town isn't that small as all of these characters live here. "
— Rhonda, 1/22/2014" I loved this book. The shopkeeper was ... wow. "
— Cameron, 1/20/2014" In spite of the fact that I didn't love the ending to this one, and no matter how disgusted at myself I became looking forward to the misfortune of others while reading it, this is one of my favorites of King's work. "
— Gabby, 1/19/2014" Great concept of getting things you really want and the trails of what you deal with in the process. Awesome book. "
— David, 1/15/2014" This would have been a solid three stars if not for a remarkably feeble ending. "
— Jennifer, 12/29/2013" OMG this book was sooo good! I don't think I've cried or shouted at a book so much before this one! "
— Jen, 12/24/2013" I recall not liking both this and Salem's Lot, but I do not remember the specific reason. They are perhaps due for a second chance. "
— Felicia, 12/21/2013" Very clever plotline - I think that this was one of King's best works. He did an excellent job tying in all of the intricate plotlines and personal feuds of the characters. "
— Trisha, 12/13/2013" I am not gonna lie... Don't read this in the dark, it scared the crap out of me, and made me tone down my curiosity level towards things that i want... "
— Katiebug, 11/13/2013" The movie stinks! "
— Holly, 6/23/2013" It's so amazing i read it during my english class (i was supposed to read My Brilliant Career) that teacher is fine with it. "
— Teshii, 6/18/2013" Great book! Definately worth reading. "
— Colleen, 3/13/2013" ONE OF THE EARLIER KING BOOKS IVE READ... LOVE THE CHARACTERS "
— Leo, 1/9/2013" Good story. Classic Stephen King. "
— Erin, 11/3/2012" Not his greatest book but still worth reading for the other character tie ins that happen throughout the novel. Kind of cruelly funny too. "
— Loren, 7/7/2012" very good book.. its classic king.. takes a normal town and destroys it by the end of the book... and the whole taking over by the darkness theme is done so masterfully "
— Arun, 4/27/2012" I am a huge Stephen King fan and this book did not disappoint. A frightening look into the greed of mankind. "
— Jessica, 4/24/2012" One of these days I am going to re-read it in English (I read it originally in Spanish) to see if it was really as good as I thought it was. "
— Jp992751, 4/18/2012" I was obsessed with SK for a long time. Some are good others were not so good. You can see my stars. I always felt obligated to finish a book but I have since found I don't. I have read all SK books cover to cover. This is a must read classic! Loved the intensity. "
— ♡, 12/2/2011" Loved Shaw Shank Redemption but this one was way way too long and way to creepy for my taste. I'm sure Stephen King has many great ones but I'm moving toward the lighter side once again. "
— Estra, 11/27/2011" As you'd expect from King a bit of a scary story. You have to read on to find out what will happen to each person! "
— Susan, 8/22/2011" Lol, Ive read this book 3 times over time. Its always like Im reading it for the 1st time. Read it in the afternoons or dusk. "
— Desean, 4/29/2011" It wasn't too bad. It wasn't one of my favorites though, either. "
— Heather, 4/17/2011" I read this book in two days during my Army Service "
— Marc, 4/12/2011" Never want something too much :) "
— Carmen, 4/6/2011" This was a rather intense book. yeah, I know, Stephen King, what do you expect. Just found it a bit TOO dark in parts. Wasn't in the right space to finish it at the time, but want to some day.... "
— Christine, 3/30/2011" Mindless fun from King - this isn't close to his best work, but Needful Things is still serviceable horror to pass a few quiet hours. Not one you'll be fighting to put down, but still good fun. "
— Sinead, 3/24/2011" Way too long, and I didn't like the ending at all... "
— Antoan, 3/23/2011" It took me awhile to get into it because the storyline started slow but it ended up being a great book. "
— Cody, 3/16/2011" Back to Castle Rock (for the last time... NO!). Well a great end to the small town we learned to love. The manipulating of the characters to serve his (Mr Gaunt) purposes is poetry. He sets them up - and we watch most of them fall.. Definitely a must read. "
— SJuhl4, 3/9/2011" This I enjoyed, however not as much as Mr. King's other books. "
