" I was torn between giving Joanne Fluke's Devil's Food Cake Murder a rating of "it's ok" and "liked it." It would have ended up on the "it's ok" list because the twist has been similarly done before in the seventh, Peach Cobbler Murder, and the twelfth, Plum Pudding Murder installments. There was absolutely no effort in figuring out who the murderer was, but oddly enough none of the residents of Lake Eden could figure it out until the very end (once again). However, I ended up giving this volume a "liked it" rating because I was so distracted by the murder investigation and trying to figure out why nobody is asking the most obvious investigative questions, I forgot there is the mystery of the Doctor Bev story arc being intertwined with the story. I was reminded of the Doctor Bev mystery by another cliffhanger. I also want to point out that it was an effective timing on Joanne Fluke to not publish the next installment right away after this one. Before the reader has a chance to resume the series and find out what happens next, they must wait for the Joanne Fluke's Lake Eden Cookbook. "
