Ever since the Big Uneasy unleashed vampires, werewolves, and other undead denizens on the world, it’s been hell being a detective — especially for zombie P.I. Dan Chambeaux. Taking on the creepiest of cases in the Unnatural Quarter with a human lawyer for a partner and a ghost for a girlfriend, Chambeaux redefines “dead on arrival.” But just because he was murdered doesn’t mean he’d leave his clients in the lurch. Besides, zombies are so good at lurching. Now he’s back from the dead and back in business — with a caseload that’s downright unnatural. A resurrected mummy is suing the museum that put him on display. Two witches, victims of a curse gone terribly wrong, seek restitution from a publisher for not using “spell check” on its magical tomes. And he’s got to figure out a very personal question — Who killed him? For Dan Chambeaux, it’s all in a day’s work. (Still, does everybody have to call him “Shamble”?) Funny, fresh, and irresistible, this cadaverous caper puts the P.I. in R.I.P…. with a vengeance. “Wickedly funny, deviously twisted and enormously satisfying. This is a big juicy bite of zombie goodness. Two decaying thumbs up!” — Jonathan Maberry “The Dan Shamble books are great fun.” — Simon R. Green

"I really enjoyed this book and have wanted to read this series for so long. I was thrilled when my local library was able to get them for me. I think the characters are quirky and while I agree with some reviews about there being a lot of sub stories going on which are kind of hard to follow, I did not find it overly difficult and the ending was worth it."

" KJA is one of those authors I don't search out to definitely read, I usually read his when one of his books catches my eye, which this one did while wandering through a bookstore killing some time. It was a fun read. The characters made for an interesting entry into a strange world while the mystery part of the story wasn't particularly strong. Overall it was interesting enough to plan on reading the second one. "
— Ted, 2/17/2014" Oh, the troubles a zombie P.I. gets into! My favorite P.I.s all share the same traits. Their personal lives are a complete wreck and they are juggling way too many things at once. Yet they have a code of honor, tremendous heart, and tons of courage. Dan Shamble is no different. Well, except that he's dead. "
— Ken, 2/1/2014" An interesting idea. I like the challenges the characters face. "
— Vera, 1/16/2014" What I expect from Kevin J. Anderson. This is a fun and entertaining take on the paranormal. Expect something that is different. A very good read. "
— Jo, 1/4/2014" This is not a good book, but it was fun. Will read the sequel. "
— Amanda, 12/6/2013" A great concept. This is definitely not your typical zombie book. I loved the way Kevin J. Anderson set up the supernatural world and the interactions within that world. The protagonist has a dry, quirky sense of humor that is very reminiscent of old PI movies and a lot of fun to read. "
— Colette, 11/13/2013" This was a LOT of fun to read! Lots of laughs with all these fun characters. Right up there with silly seriousness of monsters in Gil's All Fright Diner and monsters and lawyers in Sonovawitch!: And Other Tales of Supernatural Law "
— Joseph, 10/24/2013" The world-building and details were great, but the story wasn't that interesting. More silly than funny. "
— Deborah, 10/9/2013" wonderfully clever and entertaining! "
— Liz, 7/18/2013" So far, I don't like it, but can't stop reading it. Perhaps a little too much in the style of hard boiled detective fiction? "
— Daphne, 5/12/2013" Cute, fun read. I enjoyed the re-interpretation of traditional monsters. A bit on the Scooby Doo side of mystery writing... But that's what made it a lot of fun! "
— Julie, 1/30/2013" This book was such a fun quick read and I really enjoyed the read. "
— Debbie, 11/11/2012" Finally, a zombie with more on his mind than "brainzzzzz". Dan was murdered and came back as a zombie. Now he's out to find his killer, as well as whoever it was who killed his girlfriend and turned her into a ghost. The Quarter, at it's mysterious best. "
