"Catherine Anderson's books always tug at my heartstrings. They are well-written with wonderful characters. I fell head over heels in love with Zachariah in this one. He was a great hero for Miranda and Kate to find. One of my favorite parts was when Miranda told Zach all the things he was saying about the spider on the ceiling when he was suffering with a fever. Then in the next minute, this book twists my heart by mentioning all the abuse that Kate and Miranda suffered from Joseph. I think she does a wonderful job showing how hard it can be for a woman to trust another man after being abused so badly by her first husband. Catherine Andersron's books make me laugh, cry, and everything in between. Glad I found this one at the bookstore!"

“Anderson has a talent for drawing characters.”
— Publishers Weekly" 3 1/2 stars. I've gotten tired of Anderson's inevitable "fragile woman rescued by perfect man" formula, but her older books seem to offer more nuanced and balanced versions. This story about a widow suffering the aftereffects of an unspeakable marriage features some surprises, a worthy hero who nonetheless has some human failings, and a little more give and take than usual between the main characters -- Zach has some painful scars himself, figuratively and literally. It's a very child heavy story (this is especially noticeable when listening to the audiobook) and I felt the first half was more a romance between Zach and Kate's little girl than between the two of them, which didn't thrill me. The audiobook narration is quite good. "
— willaful, 2/19/2014" I have yet to read a Catherine Anderson book that I didn't love. This one was just as good as all her others. I loved watching Kate and Miranda learn to love and trust. After all they had been through it took a very strong man to help them past it. By learning to love Zach they also helped heal him from the problems of his past. I can't wait till she comes out with her next great book! "
— Lindsey, 2/10/2014" This book had a good story line and I like the writting style of the author. BUT, she was very graphic in describing the "wedding night" and another intimate time between the couple. Even though they were married, this type of writing isn't called for. "
— Bette, 2/9/2014" Although predictable by the title, I found this book well written and stayed on the story line. "
— Becky, 2/8/2014" ok so....yes I can't seem to get enough trashy romance books these days. I blame 50 shades.. Anyway Actually this book was really good. If you are in the mood for a classic female rescued by male heroine type of story. THis one was really yummy. I liked it. "
— Carla, 1/26/2014" On the whole, a good book. What I don't know is how far-fetched the story was, given the time period, location and the fact it is a romance novel. The only thing I find too far-fetched was how the brother-in-law's ending occurred. Given that it was written by the author nearly twenty years ago, there are some things I will let pass, as I have watched her research and writing grow by leaps and bounds. As one of her early works, it is well-written. If she had written the general story about spousal abuse more recently, I would have expected far more, even with such a difficult topic. "
— Mum, 1/18/2014" Went a "little long for my taste". "
— Cassie, 1/14/2014" A bit of a rough read, but TOTALLY AWESOME!! Catherine Anderson is one the best!! "
— Debbie, 12/30/2013" Another excellent novel by the brilliant Ms Anderson! "
— Victoria, 12/25/2013" I found this re-released publication! Catherine Anderson is always a good read! "
— Shay, 12/25/2013" For a complete review, visit Affaire de Coeur magazine. "
— TJ, 12/8/2013" This would appeal much more to someone who likes more storyline versus an actual relationship. I prefer novels sexier but this was still really good. "
— Samantha, 12/3/2013" I totally and completely loved Coming Up Roses. Miranda was a sweetheart. Zach made you wish that all men were like him and Kate was a strong woman in this story. I wish that we could all find a love as strong as Catherine Anderson shows in her novels. "
— Mary, 10/5/2013" Very great read. Kate andMiranda pull at my heart string with all the hurt they had to endure. Anyone who is a true Catherine Anderson fan will love this read! "
— Tiffany, 3/10/2013" abuse, fear, a mother's fierce love and protection, trust, confidence, truth and above all, love, abound in this book. "
— Vicki, 11/28/2012" This a painful reality to some peoples lives. Mrs. Anderson handles it with grace and skillfully manevors thru the painful reality of abuse of a child and mother. There is a lot of wit and lots of love for the characters from a man who learns to love with patience. "
— Ruth, 10/2/2012" Miranda seems far to intelligent for only four years-old. I like that girl a lot, but she seems too knowledgable. Though she has been through quite an ordeal. The love that is expressed in this book is so strong that you can almost feel it. It was an okay quick read. "
— Rena, 8/19/2012" Great book!! Laughing , crying, in suspense , what else could you ask of a great story teller, absolutely nothing. The only thing I can say that would be appropriate is ,, More, more, more . Anderson needs to write more for us.!!! More books please Mrs. A .!!!! Awaiting "Cheyenne Amber" . "
