"I'm not sure I would have gotten "labor movements" out of this book (like some other reviewers), but we do enjoy their creative methods of problem solving! And we first come to see the craftiness of Duck. But it begs the question: if being under high power lines is bad for cows, what will sleeping under electric blankets every night do to milk production??"

“This hilarious tale will give young rebels-in-the-making a taste of the power of peaceful protest and the satisfaction of cooperative give and take.”
— Amazon.com, editorial review“Kids and underdogs everywhere will cheer for the clever critters that calmly and politely stand up for their rights, while their human caretaker becomes more and more unglued.”

— Emily, 2/19/2014" Teaches the power of collective action. Will our kids know what a typewriter is? "
— Susan, 2/17/2014" This is another great book to read aloud for kids. This book tells a story of negotiation and determination. The moos are very creative and eventually get what they want. Cute story to read, and Lauryn was all in to the "click clack, moo" that came on every page. Great read! "
— Christina, 2/16/2014" A children's story about striking cows, then hens ... then ducks. A children's story about unions, people! Puh-lease ... seems unnecessary, but then it WAS a Caldecott Honor Book. I guess maybe you could discuss politics (labour force, negotiations, leverage, extortion etc.) with an insightful child after reading it, because I'm not too sure what other mores, norms, or values were meant to be portrayed ... ? "
— Carolee, 2/13/2014" Very funny for dad on one level, cute and entertaining for my son on another. "
— Aaron, 2/8/2014" After reading about this book in a picture book writing book I picked it up again. I thought it was really funny how the cows write to the farmer for blankets on cold nights and the duck becomes their go-between. Cute story for grandchild. And it got a Caldecott Honor. Cute story and easy word count. "
— Sheri, 2/1/2014" what a wonderful story to read to your children. Humorous and engaging. "

— Samantha, 1/14/2014" Another book that made me nearly pee my pants laughing. Who knew that cardboard kids' books could be so awesome? Let's hear it for neutral ducks! "
— Courtney, 1/8/2014" Behold the power of writing! "
— Cindy, 1/2/2014" Of everything I read for my undergraduate children's literature course, this is the one that has continued to stick with and amuse me the most. It manages the triple whammy: humor for the adults, humor for the children, and wonderfully beautiful illustrations for both. "
