Evan Delaney is shocked to learn that her ex-sister-in-law, Tabitha, has joined the Remnant, a religion with a dangerous and fanatical following. What is more alarming is that the unstable young mother plans to regain custody of her son and disappear with him into the fold of the church. She has the Remnant on her side, and they’ll do anything it takes—including murder—to get what they want. But it’s another member of the Remnant who’s killed, and when Evan’s brother becomes a suspect, Evan is dragged even deeper into the nightmare.

"The Evan Delaney series by Meg Gardiner is a fast-paced turbo-charged ride and I loved every minute of it. When you're reading it (I narrated it) the story plays like a movie. Crazy characters and situations but ultimately believable. The characters are interesting, flawed, and wonderful. You can read the books on their own, but I love the feel of the books as a collection. I was sad when the series ended."

" This book really needed tighter editing. It could have been a page turner but it was way too long and everything was so over the top. "
— Sandi, 2/14/2014" I loved this book. There were so many obstacles for the characters to get past and so many options as to who the culprits were that it kept you going. "
— Elisa, 2/5/2014" This is a book I've had on my book shelf for years without reading it and it turned out to be really great! It was a great story with lots of things going on and I found it really hard to put down towards the end. "
— Lene, 2/1/2014" First in a series, and I am not sure I will read any of the others. This book is very fast paced, from one chaotic incident to another. I like books that take time for character development, and build a story. "
— Janice, 1/30/2014" Quick enjoyable read but I think she tried to put a little too much into the plot. It could have had a little less detail and fewer twists and had a more believable story. "
— Morton897, 1/20/2014" Well-paced, likeable characters, no pie-in-the-sky ending. A great read all around, and I'm not generally a thriller reader. "
— Melanie, 1/18/2014" Love Meg Gardiner. Always get through her books in one sitting as they are totally engrossing. "
— Claire, 1/18/2014" Almost done . . . fun read. "
— Patty, 1/13/2014" I loved this book! Pretty intense and a definite page turner. "
— Laura, 1/1/2014" Evan is TSTL and childish. Becomes tiresome after a while. Goes into increasingly dangerous and unbelievable situations. Law enforcement is potrayed as idiots. Not sure I'd read another Evan adventure. "
— Marca, 12/4/2013" Enjoyed book. Was a little draggy in spots but well worth the read. "
— Janet, 12/3/2013" Very fun mystery based in Santa Barbara area. Fun heroine/protagonist. "
— Karen, 11/15/2013" The beginning was a little slow but it certainly picked up about halfway in "
— Ashley, 11/11/2013" Wow, Evan Delaney's life goes from one tension filled drama to the next. From a funeral service to a religious revival, a book signing, a near kidnapping, getting arrested, a wasp attack, facing down a rabid dog, and that was just the first 150 pages. This book was one wild ride. "
— Kristin, 9/3/2013" Meg Gardiner is amazing! I can't get enough of her books. "
— Candace, 8/10/2013" This is a very well done chick-lit mystery. The characters are nicely developed and there's a lot of action. I guessed whodunnit early in the book, but still enjoyed the ride. I'll be reading the rest of the books in this series. "
— Linda, 3/2/2013" Endearing characters, great plot twists. Really hard to put down. Had my heart racing like I was right there with Evan & Luke when they had their lives on the line. "
— Joyce, 10/3/2012" An entertaining read with a different perspective. I thought the characters were well developed and the setting intriguing. Only wish I'd read it in it's original language, since the translator made some silly mistakes :( "
— Alexandra, 9/14/2012" My cousin suggested this book and author. It is a series and I really enjoyed it. I am getting ready to read the next one in this series! I recommend it! "
— Traci, 5/4/2012" 3.5 star page turner; good for long road trips "
— Bobbye, 1/25/2012" Interesting, twisted "end of the world" cult mystery. Evan Delaney is too strong as a heroine and way too jaded. A bit to pat for my tastes. "
— Winter, 10/31/2011" about to start a new series. whats wrong with me? "

This book was one wild ride. "
— Kristin, 2/26/2011" Great story, lots of action, couldn't put it down. "
— Pat, 2/17/2011" Very good despite too many 'final' showdowns. I'm curious to see what else this author can do with the mystery-thriller genre. "
— Meaghan, 2/1/2011" It took a long time for this one to get going, in my opinion. However, once it did, it just raced along, and I wasn't ready for it to end. "
— Sherree, 8/26/2010" Meg Gardiner is amazing! I can't get enough of her books. "
— Candace, 8/2/2010" I enjoyed this book and have enjoyed the series.

i have not read the series in order but i din'rt really find that tat was an issue (except I suppose you know tHat she is going to live through it) though the heroines normally do "
— Afsana, 5/21/2010" Very fun mystery based in Santa Barbara area. Fun heroine/protagonist. "
— Karen, 3/14/2010" The Remnant has decided they don't want to wait for Armegeddon, they would prefer to start it. Books about religious fanatics always disturb me but this is really well written. I give it 4 stars. "
