Mystery and suspense combine in this first book in an exciting new 4-book series by best-selling author Terri Blackstock. Thelma and Wayne Owens run a bed and breakfast in Cape Refuge, Georgia. They minister to the seamen on the nearby docks and prisoners just out of nearby jails, holding services in an old warehouse and taking many of the "down-and-outers" into their home. They have two daughters: the dutiful Morgan who is married to Jonathan, a fisherman, and helps them out at the B & B, and Blair, the still-single town librarian, who would be beautiful if it weren’t for the serious scar on the side of her face. After a heated, public argument with his in-laws, Jonathan discovers Thelma and Wayne murdered in the warehouse where they held their church services. Considered the prime suspect, Jonathan is arrested. Grief-stricken, Morgan and Blair launch their own investigation to help Matthew Cade, the town’s young police chief, find the real killer. Shady characters and a raft of suspects keep the plot twisting and the suspense building as we learn not only who murdered Thelma and Wayne, but also the secrets about their family’s past and the true reason for Blair’s disfigurement.

" First in the Cape Refuge series by Christian author Terri Blackstock (who wrote the Restoration series, which I loved!). I bought the first two in a two set offer a while back on Amazon for a nominal price. All set in fictitious Cape Refuge, Georgia, near Tybee Island (which we have visited and loved). This one opens with the murder of a much loved couple on the island, who run the Hanover House, a place of love and refuge for those who have given their life to Christ in prison or in other serious situations and need a place to heal, recuperate, etc. Very good story and great characters. I believe there are 4 books in this series, not sure if I"ll buy the last two or not, but I probably will :) "

" 302 pgs. One of three in the series about Thelma and Wade Owens and their Christian mission work on the island of Cape Refuge. A bit of an overkill, to me, on the Christian theme. It could be woven in, but with less schmalz. A relaxing read, even though evil is stalking the heroes! "

" I love a good mystery...this book was a good find. This is my first time reading a book by this author. I can't wait to pick up more of her books! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jerry | 1/24/2014

" It was a very good book, but the Christian preaching made it difficult to get through. We all have tragedies in our lives and it doesn't matter what religion we follow. I did not find it necessary to interject all of this religion specific preaching into an otherwise great book. "

" I got this as a free download for my Kindle. I enjoyed it and am already reading the 2nd book of the series which I also got free. However, the 3rd and 4th books are going to cost me. I will definitely buy them though. It is a murder mystery with Christian undertones. "

" This is a series. While I liked it and after 3 books grew to really like the characters, it had a lot of murders in it, which I reallly don't care for. "
