"I absolutely loved this book and how it was so completely different from any other historical fiction/romance story I had ever read before. Rather than being set in London, England or somewhere in Scotland during the Bruce era or the Victorian age, etc it was set in 789 AD...the Tang Dynasty! Ai Li (the heroine) is trying to warn her father that the man she had been promised to is actually his enemy, and is forming his own army. on her journey she meets our beloved and handsome hero who is a white man outsider left over from the previous wars and battles to stop the rebellions."

" Really liked it! <3 "
— Anicka, 2/15/2014" This is a historical romance that takes place in China during the time of the emperors. The main character is a princess and she has fallen for a barbarian..... Interesting premise, the book was okay. I thought I would like it more than I did. "
— Marti, 2/3/2014" More later, but right now I just want to say this book took my breath away. I loved every minute of it. So sensual and well-written. LOVED IT!!!!! "
— Darynda, 1/27/2014" I loved the setting, but everything else felt formulaic. "
— Tasha, 1/6/2014" This is a nice historical romance that is based in China. Not a setting that you see alot in the genre. A nice little book. "
— Erin, 12/20/2013" not bad, but I felt that I could have used a glossary to understand all the Chinese words used. "
— Beth, 12/19/2013" I really, really loved this book! I think new writer Lin has a bright future. "
— Joy, 11/24/2013" Freakin' amazing book, I cried my way through the last third of it. Totally emotionally satisfying. Want more soonest! "
— ms, 7/6/2013" A fabulous debut with a more than satisfying ending. It's easy to see why this book won a Golden Heart in 2009. "
— Gwynlyn, 5/25/2013" this had more of a plot than I expected, but I'm not sure if it was just meant to drag it all out and it didn't seem to have much of an ending. Still, I enjoyed it and would like to read the one about her grandmother. "
— Kerr, 4/24/2013" I wanted to like this one a lot more. I never got a handle on Ryam. I couldn't even figure out where he was FROM, let alone why he wanted to be with Ai LI, other than he had the hots for her. Okay, okay, he wanted a home, yadda yadda, but it didn't strike me as being real or deep. "
— Mary, 2/10/2013" Loved the unique setting and the love story. "
— Monica, 10/10/2012" Loads of fun. I really enjoyed the Tang dynasty setting; a very nice change from Regency romances. Will read more in this series. "
— Ameliedanjou, 10/7/2012" Draws you into an ancient cultural without jamming it down your throat and gives you a breathtaking journey. LOVE LOVE LOVE! "
— Inez, 8/22/2012" Fabulous book! It was great reading something in another time and place. "
— Laurie, 8/20/2012" Kickass romance that kicks ass. More heroines need to pack deadly weaponry. "
