Stephen Jay Schwartz delivers an intense, nonstop thrill ride in this shocking new novel about a Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide detective who must find a killer responsible for a series of murders that are directly related to him.
LAPD detective and former vice cop Hayden Glass is a sex addict. The addiction has ruined his marriage and continues to complicate every aspect of his life. But regular attendance in Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings has helped keep his behavior from affecting his career. That is, until he suspects that three macabre and seemingly unrelated murders are linked to his meetings and targeted directly at him. The rift between his private secrets and his duty to uphold the law plays out against an ever-shortening timetable in which to save his own life and the lives of the people he loves.

"This book is not for the sensitive or queasy person. It is a fast paced, action packed book with vivid imagery and some scenes that are definitely not for the faint of heart. " — Kristen (5 out of 5 stars)

“Boulevard is raw, twisted, and so hard-boiled it simmers from beginning to end.”
“Relentless and unflinching, a shocking thriller that dares you to keep reading. Schwartz has created one of the most complex and tortured protagonists I’ve encountered in a long time. A powerful debut.”
“A terrific police thriller. It’s fast-paced and convincingly told. The streets of LA have never been meaner or seamier. Schwartz is gifted with clear vision and a knowing heart and a way with words. Wonderful.”
“Schwartz does a fine job of blurring the lines between sexuality and violence, the criminal world and the police world.”
“Plot twists and turns plus an unusual denouement make Schwartz an author to watch. Mystery fans who enjoy reading about the mean streets of LA (à la Robert Crais, Michael Connelly, T. Jefferson Parker) will devour this.”
“Porter sprinkles disturbing details matter-of-factly into his reading, and as incongruities begin to coalesce, listeners realize something isn’t quite right. Porter’s reading of Glass’ thoughts and words betray nothing but nagging wonder, and his delivery noticeably tightens when horrific plot twists take over and the final bloodfest nears with palpable inevitability. Porter steers through the jolting conclusion, finishing the suspenseful novel with a fitting calmness. A compelling and comprehensively spooky reading.”
“The plot of Boulevard is a ride befitting the haunting setting. It’s a blind-folded ride through the streets of Los Angeles in a car with no breaks. You can’t see what’s coming at you but you experience the rush of the ride as it’s happening. Schwartz does an outstanding job of developing place and plot. His characters are dimensional and human…I listened to Boulevard on audio from Blackstone Audio narrated by Ray Porter. The combination of book and narrator was exceptional. One of Porter’s strengths is taking on the role he is reading, chameleon-like. While I’ve enjoyed him reading other crime novels, they don’t impede my ability to envision him as Hayden Glass. He exuded Hayden’s anger and frustration. I think Porter also accentuated the darkness of the novel’s tone. Schwartz and Porter brought Hayden Glass and his Los Angeles to life.”
" unprobable story, gruesome murders, but i finished it. "
" 2.5 stars. Almost a good story, almost good writing. "
" Mesmerizing freight train of a book. Gripping analysis of addiction and twelve steps in the context of a police procedural. Outstanding. "
" This book is not for the sensitive or queasy person. It is a fast paced, action packed book with vivid imagery and some scenes that are definitely not for the faint of heart. "
" The interesting aspects of this cop's character were sacrificed by the expendiency of the thriller plot, the exploitative aspects of his addiction, and the rote over-the-top evil genius. "
" Best book that I've read in a long time. Shocking, gripping, well written, intense and full of twists. "
" Story line just didn't really hold my attention but the ending could have saved it. Instead it totally killed it. Doubtful that I would go back to this author or character. "
" Too twisted for my taste... "
" Need to take a shower inside and out after this. This guy is no Harry Bosch. This guy is off the scale. No happy ending here. Can't see a series. "
" Fast-paced, gripping and, oddly enough, haunting. "
" I didn't care for this book, it was quite graphic, but I hung on hoping the story would end with some redeeming quality, which it did not. The author did know his material very well, which impressed me. "
" Great book but definitely not for someone who does not want to read graphic violence. "
" I'm stopping on page 61. Hayden sounded like an interesting character in theory, but the story is too slow paced for my taste. I'm giving up. "
