Publisher Description

New York Times bestselling author John Lescroart presents an ambitious thriller featuring San Francisco defense attorney Dismas Hardy.

Betrayal is provocative…a tour de force of a legal thriller.”—The Providence Journal

Dismas Hardy agrees to take an appeal to overturn the murder conviction of National Guard reservist Evan Scholler. Scholler had plenty of reasons for revenge—but as Dismas delves into the case, he begins to uncover a terrible truth that drops him right into the complicated world of government conspiracy, assassination, and betrayal...

"It took 2/3 of the book to build the story... not a bad thing, the author used that much of the book to build the characters block by block and did an excellent job... the last third was taking care of wrapping up each character and concluding the storyline which was very well done."

" This is a good read if you like James Patterson, Grisham, etc. I liked the current themes (Iraq) as well as the law aspect. I am a closet lawyer you know. There were a few words I could have done without but they are easily skipped over. "

" This book in the Dismas Hardy series by John Lescroart was fascinating to me for it's glimpse into how the world of defense contracting in Iraq works. (Or doesn't work, depending on your point of view.) "

" First three-fourths of the book are amazing, final 100 pages sort of drags, with the end result pretty predictable. But could not put the book down for the first 300 pages or so. "

" This was quite interesting! We really enjoyed listening to it. It is the story of a Iraq war vet, his trial and appeal. So it has the elements of telling the story and the legal aftermath. Very intelligently done. The reader is quite good, too. "

" I've read all Lescroart's Dismas Hardy novels (I love the name Dismas!) This last one was a bit different. The story revolved around Iraq, which I thought would be boring, but it did get pretty interesting. Slow start, but good finish. I feel like Dismas is a friend of mine. "
