Daaimah S. Poole was born and raised in Philadelphia. She graduated from Temple University with a BA in journalism. She is a journalist and the author of thirteen novels and counting.

Karen starred in the Pulitzer Prize–winning Broadway play Disgraced, and had a guest starring role in FX network’s critically acclaimed television series The Americans.
