"I am a big fan of regency romance but after listening to this book for a couple of chapters, I was angry, I couldn't understand why lie about sleeping with Eleanor when clearly she was a virgin. I thought how sick could you be to " blackmail" your brother into marriage to a woman you'd already slept with. However, she really did come out way ahead and in the end, she was married to the brother best suited for her. I do wish her brother could have been the recipient of a good thrashing. He got off way too easy for all of the the wrongs committed. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in regency romance.t"

“The name Jo Beverley will be on every fan’s lips after reading this splendid love story of a young woman forced to wed a handsome rake…This immensely appealing pair of lovers will utterly captivate readers, while Ms. Beverley’s commanding ease with the regency period provides a veritable feast of delight for the true connoisseur.”
— RT Book Reviews" 4.5, rounding up for the fun factor. Loved the voice and Eleanor, but the hero was a bit too stupid/ignorant about how much he could tell Eleanor at times for me to care. The rape at the beginning (not done by the hero, but still graphic and dealt with throughout the book) and the infidelity throughout make it a difficult read from a genre-conventions standpoint, yet Beverly mostly pulled it off for me. Definitely an author I will be reading more from (I already borrowed book two from my library...oopsie). "
— John, 2/5/2014" 2.5. Kind of boring in some parts. I liked the character of Eleanor, but Nicholas got on my nerves a lot. I probably won't continue with the series, even though this was my first Jo Beverley book. "
— JuJu, 1/31/2014" Finally got the first book of the series, which was nice, though I already knew a lot of the twists from the rest of the series. Still, I love Beverly's characters and all their angst, and chew through her novels like candy. "
— Muccamukk, 1/21/2014" Nicholas Delaney, aka King Rogue, makes me wonder why skills like horse riding and sword fighting went out of style. "
— Lori, 12/31/2013" I am not sure what I think of this book there were so many loose ends. I have no idea what happened to her brother and many others. I have a feeling this will lead into other things, but at this point I don't care. "
— Acquinnette, 12/23/2013" This. Book. Is. A. Mess. "
— Sarah, 12/17/2013" Ick. Just couldn't get into it because the premise was not something I could enjoy. (And the cheating certainly didn't help.) "
— Lord, 12/14/2013" I wasn't sure if I loved or hatted Nicolas...nice twist in Nicolas' fate. "
— Jacquey25, 10/26/2013" For some reason, I thought that I had read somewhere that this was a clean book. It is not. "
— Katherine, 9/12/2013" What was the point of this book? It never went anywhere. No story. The characters were unremarkable. Could not get into it. "
— Loraine, 6/20/2013" Kind of slow until the end. "
— Marilyn, 5/29/2013" my favorite of all the jo beverly I have read. "
— Marti, 4/10/2013" So the co. of rogues begins. What a great way to ensure a 15 bk deal. It's a shame this book wasn't more enjoyable. Personally, I'm not a fan of a "rape the heroine, but Blane your twin brother" plot, but it almost works here. Almost. "
— Diana, 3/23/2013" Probably more 4 1/2 stars. This is a terrific book and it's an excellent intro to the Company of Rogues. Eleanor really is an exemplary woman and well Nicholas ... "
— Janet, 3/18/2013" The books was ok, but not a page turner, I found i could read it but only for a few hours at a time before I had to put it down. Meh. "
— Scelest, 11/3/2012" I can honestly say I have never read this plot before! And it did not have hardly any sex in it although it might have been better if the two "lovers" had spent any time with each other! I just couldn't buy the premise! "
— Cary, 7/2/2012" very sweet historical romance with some mystery and intrigue ... "
— Ronica, 2/9/2012" Jo Beverley comes up with some amazing stories for historical romance. They are so much more than just a romance. This book was not an easy or comfortable read, but it was very good. "

— Cary, 4/19/2011" I am liking this Company of Rogues series. I read the first 3 in reverse order; 3-2-1. Hooked now!

I already knew Nicholas from the other books, so was glad to read his story. "
— Anna, 12/2/2010" Good novel from Beverley. Some hard-core angsting going on and I liked it! "
— Michael, 11/8/2010" Probably more 4 1/2 stars. This is a terrific book and it's an excellent intro to the Company of Rogues. Eleanor really is an exemplary woman and well Nicholas ... "

— Katherine, 8/21/2010" Kind of slow until the end. "
— Marilyn, 7/31/2010" Not your standard romance novel but more believable as an arranged marriage than some of the others out there. I liked it but I would bet that most people who read this one won't. "
— Maria, 3/12/2010" I wasn't sure if I loved or hatted Nicolas...nice twist in Nicolas' fate. "
— Jacquey25, 9/29/2009" 2.5 stars. This one was a bit too crazy for me. "
— LuvGirl, 6/23/2009" The thing about this book is you either love it or hate it. It took a little time for me to get into this story, but it was worth it for the ending was just the best. "
