James Herriot has now become firmly established and accepted as one of Darrowby's veterinarians. He's also married, and lives with his wife Helen on the top floor of Skeldale House. His former boss, now partner, Siegfried, lives downstairs with Siegfried's brother Tristan. James continues the rich and rewarding day-to-day life of a small-town veterinarian, and we journey with him across the dales, meeting a whole new cast of unforgettable characters -- humans, dogs, horses, lambs, parakeets -- all of them drawn with the same infinite fascination, affection and insight that made James Herriot one of the most beloved authors of our time. All all the stories are warmly, evocatively told by the world-renowned "voice" of Dr. Herriot -- Christopher Timothy.

Quotes & Awards

  • “Whatever joy one found in [All Creatures Great and Small] is in [All Things Bright and Beautiful], only even more joyous; whatever laughter rippled from the throat in the reading of the first, finds even greater gusto in this one. It is funny, wry, simple in its story but as deep and perceptive of life's truths as the superlative sensitivity of the write and his talent can make it. Dorothy Eastland, The Hartford Courant

  • Christopher Timothy conveys his relish for the countryside and country folk, not to mention animals.... Herriot's generous nature and honest concern coupled with Timothy's friendly style are a winning combination. AudioFile

  • A #1 New York Times Bestseller

" Herriot is a great storyteller, and each adventure he tells brings you right into the barn with him. As a lover of farms, I was entranced. And it reminded me of my dad in so many ways. "

" James Herriot's books were my childhood salvation. When reality was knocking on my door, I could always turn to a chapter of any of his books and find myself on the rolling hills of Yorkshire with a pack of dogs by my side. I'm sure I wasn't the only girl who wished to be a veterinarian after reading Herriot's books. "

" Wonderful stories and characters from an English veterinarian. I get warm fuzzies just thinking about this book. I read it in high school and watched all the PBS episodes with my family. For years, whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I answered "a vet." I still love these stories. "

" I love this author! This book, as opposed to the first in the series, is more about veterinary medicine. While the first book narrated his courtship and marriage to change things up occasionally, this one stuck more to his practice. I enjoy the authors understanding of the strengths of the country folks he works with and while I know nothing of animal diseases, I find it fascinating. "
