A century-old mystery—and a desperate battle to survive—unfold in this standalone thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Dark Matter and Recursion. On Christmas Day in 1893, every man, woman, and child in a remote mining town disappeared, belongings forsaken, meals left to freeze in vacant cabins, and not a single bone found. Now, journalist Abigail Foster and her historian father have set out to explore the long-abandoned town and learn what happened. With them are two backcountry guides—along with a psychic and a paranormal photographer who are there to investigate rumors that the town is haunted. But Abigail and her companions are about to learn that the town’s ghosts are the least of their worries. Twenty miles from civilization, with a blizzard bearing down, they realize they are not alone. The ordeal that follows will test this small team past the breaking point as they battle the elements and human foes alike—and discover that the town’s secrets still have the power to kill. Part journey into old-West history, part nail-biting survival thriller, Abandon is a bloody, darkly surprising tale as only Blake Crouch could deliver.

"This book was very action-filled and the mystery had many twists, which I didn't see coming. I like that! It wasn't really about anything paranormal as I expected it to be, but instead was a psychological thriller with some very real antagonists! Well written and researched; I could easily visualize the ghost town in the mountains and the people who had once lived there. A VERY good read. I am highly recommending this book to my husband as I know he will enjoy the action/suspense scenes!"

" Ehhh, not that bad, but not that good either. Interesting enough to keep me reading, but by the ending I felt like the author was trying to see how many plot twists he could fit into a single novel. I would have enjoyed it more if the book had stayed the ghost story its beginnings hinted at. "
— Beth, 2/17/2014" The story was there...but the author wasn't always so good at articulating it. It's been a long time since I've read a book where I had to stop and re-read a passage several times to figure out what the author was talking about. Aside from the issues with the flow, it was an interesting, eerie, story. "
— Julie, 2/15/2014" the story was ok, but the author rambled on on on. "
— Mitch, 2/2/2014" Would have been better had not so many swear words been used that I doubt were used in the 1800s to begin with. It did keep my interest, or I would not have finished. "
— Kristine, 1/16/2014" I found it difficult to rate this book. I enjoyed it and kept listening, but found the 1893 story and characters much more interesting than those of the present day story. I also thought the narrator, Luke Daniels, rather droned on at times. If the story telling and character development of the present day story line matched the quality of the 1893 story line, I probably would have given it 4 stars. "
— KarenLee, 1/14/2014" Amazing story,without doubt the best thriller i have read this year.Even had a great ending,superb. "
— William, 1/8/2014" an exciting read, despite a slow start... but nothing that will go down as classic literature, by any means. "
— Jared, 12/24/2013" Not my normal read, but from the moment I picked it up, I was hooked! Looking forward to reading more of his work. "
— Shelley, 12/18/2013" Very well written, toggling between 1999 and 1893, kept things in perspective and all came together in the end. Alot of killing but that was the basis of the book, what greedy people do both then and now! recommend reading it! "
— Glenn, 11/27/2013" This was a fun book by a local author. Talked about areas of Colorado that I've been to which gave it a very familiar feeling "
— Jack, 11/25/2013" Amazing book. Will have to read his others. "
— Sandy, 9/18/2013" I liked this book! It kept me in suspense. "
— Carmen, 7/20/2013" Could hardly put it down! The suspense was tight, the story was great, I loved it! "
— Pam, 6/29/2013" Abandon was well written and even though it was not the type of book that i usually read i found it enjoyable. Would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good read. "
— Laura, 6/24/2013" enjoyed it, not as sick & twisted as the other 2...but well done. I liked the historical aspect of the old west & the present day coming together. "
— Toni, 4/20/2013" This book scared the crap out of me and that is a good thing! The plot twists and turns in all the right ways and there is no trite happy ending. Loved it. "
— Staci, 1/4/2013" Not at all what I expected. I was expecting a traditional ghost story but got a heist novel. Was pleasantly surprised by the read. Will continue to read more from the author. "
— Scott, 9/19/2012" Entertaining story. Kept me guessing to the end. Fast and easy read. I would recommend this book. "
— Nathan, 7/7/2012" So many twists and turns you couldn't figure it out until the end when you got the whole story "
— Elizabeth, 6/5/2012" It wasnt so much as scary as it was sad... "
— Emily, 4/26/2012" Just picked this out at the library and was very pleasantly surprised. I thought it was going to be more of a paranormal type of story but ended up in a totally different direction. I really enjoyed it. Intend on picking up more of his books. "
— Marybeth, 4/29/2011" Holy smokes! This one is a thriller. There isn't a moment where the tension lets up.
A story told across a century. If you are a slow reader you may have to look back and see what happened in the previous century because it jumps time. But other than that it was a THRILLING read. "
— Karen, 4/3/2011" A shattered, heartbreaking thriller. A rare find I can't recommend enough. "
— Sean, 2/8/2011"
Ok, well, I didn't really finish this one, but I'm calling it, I don't think I'll finish.

I got too scared. "
— Alison, 2/3/2011" It wasnt so much as scary as it was sad... "
— Emily, 1/21/2011" This was a good story. The ending was a little bit but predictable, but still well worth the read. I read the book a bit ago and totally forgot that I read it, so it wasn't one that made a huge bang in my reading mind like so many books have done. "
— Naomi, 9/16/2010" Amazing book. Will have to read his others. "
— Sandy, 6/21/2010" This was a fun book by a local author. Talked about areas of Colorado that I've been to which gave it a very familiar feeling "
