"I read this during my Geoffrey Archer phase... and the only thing that has stuck with me is the story 'The first miracle'. It's about a very young Pontius Pilate meeting up with Mary and Joseph on their voyage to Bethlehem. Those who know me, know I'm spectacularly religious/Christian - but this story has just stuck with me. It is so heartbreaking in its simplicity and message. It was published as a separate story years ago, as a fundraiser."
— Annie (4 out of 5 stars)
A master at mixing power, politics, and profit into fiction.
— Entertainment Weekly" Jeffery Archer is a great writer and his stories in this book are very realistic and so human. Some of his essays didn't do much for me but I especially enjoyed "The 1st Miracle - Pontius Pilate as a Boy" and "Old Love" was especially sweet about growing old together "
— Jakki, 2/13/2014" I liked the last short story, The old love. On the whole, it was not that fascinating "
— Hari, 2/13/2014" I am not as much a fan of short stories. "
— Vicki, 2/4/2014" Cheap twists on tired tales, more often lemon than (sub)lime. In other words? Don't waste your time. "
— Matt, 1/28/2014" I don't usually enjoy short stories. But these were good stories with a touch of message to them. "
— melody, 1/20/2014" I read this book years ago and decided to read it again. Archer is a master story teller. He develops his characters in a precise manner and gets to the tale. "
— Carol, 1/18/2014" Collection of short engaging stories. "
— Ambar, 1/9/2014" dustbin full of waste "
— shaik, 1/3/2014" Ten short stories and a book excerpt. Archer always entertains. "
— Pamela, 12/25/2013" I enjoyed this set of short stories, some of them I anticipated the twist at the end and others I did not. It was good to have a book that I could easily set down after a couple of pages (when the story ended). "
— Jolynne, 11/30/2013" Just lovely especially the one about Pontius Pilate!Very well written. "
