A multiple Christy Award finalist, best-selling author Stephanie Grace Whitson is acclaimed for her novels of the American frontier. In this soul-stirring tale, an unlikely attraction occurs between two passengers on a steamboat heading up the Missouri River. The Reverend Samuel Beck is on a mission to evangelize the rough-hewn settlers in the wilds of Montana, while the well-to-do Miss Fannie Rousseau is determined to solve a mystery that surfaced after her mother's death. With little in common, they wonder if their paths will ever cross again.

"**Vague spoilers** The best part of this story was the vulnerabilities of the characters. I find that much truer to life than the take charge and make it all work out characterizations. Some things did work out too smoothly, like a clean hotel in frontier rough Fort Benton. But, the tragedies that come didn't have magic fixes. Burdens were lightened, not lifted. No burden equals no growth. It was worth the read."

— Marris, 2/8/2014" An ok read, the underlying theme of 'grace' made this book readable, but not as good as some of her other books that I'd read "

— Amy, 9/17/2013" I felt this book took a little while to get started but it helps to build up the character background. It was quite good. The characters were likable and the story good. I predicted a couple of plot twists but they still were interesting. I would recommend this. "

— Lynn, 8/5/2011" I loved watching these characters grow and change as they encountered Montana. They rose to each occasion, letting us see and feel their struggles as they grew. They excellently portrayed how God uses unsuitable people for His work.

A great read that left me encouraged. "
