Publisher Description

Decades ago, Germans bombed the houses in the village at Lamb Lane. Now, redevelopment is underway. Under the wreckage, a workman's pickaxe strikes the skeleton of a pregnant girl, a bullet lodged in her spine, and he finds the skeleton of her unborn baby, too. The trail is definitely stone cold when C.D. Sloan takes on this case. Can he solve the puzzle of this crime on so little evidence...and with such old clues? Does anyone now alive remember any details pertinent to this young woman's remains and the circumstances under which they have taken so long to come to light?

" As I've said about previous editions in this series, these are interesting plot-driven novels, but lack the character development that would make them favorites. "

" Aird writes a very readable english mystery. A police procedural, made to stand apart by the eccentric characters. I will be reading more by this author. "

" Good mystery but hard to follow at first not sure if it was the style of writing or what and a few mistakes in the end - wrong last name with the murdered character (someone had corrected it by handwriting the correct last name). "

" Another Aird classic to fill in the time. This Detective Sloan followed the pattern of previous ones read and was easy to solve. A nice nostalgic read. "
