"This is by far my absolute favorite Christmas tale in existence. Before reading the book I had only the honor of seeing several plays and a few versions on television; now that I've added A Christmas Carol to my "read" shelf, I can only say that my love for the story has grown tenfold. It is heartfelt and timeless; its general message of being a good person will never get old, and the cheer of everyone who surrounds the insufferably grouchy Scrooge both bolsters my mood and restores some of my faith in the capabilities of kindness in mankind. I hold the firm opinion that no matter how many times I read or see this masterpiece, I will never grow tired of old Ebenezer or his haunting Spirits."

" Read the book and have listened to the audiobook several times. Every time an uplifting emotional treat! One must see the best movie version, "Scrooge" with Alastair Sim. "
— pw2buz, 12/26/2021" I read this to my kids today apparently Jim Hension's Muppet one is way better. "
— Michelle, 2/14/2014" I can hardly believe I've never read this before, but it was really a great book. Dickens paints a beautiful picture with his words and story line. (Much better than with Great Expectations!) "
— Jolee, 2/13/2014" A true classic. So good! Very touching. "
— Miriam, 1/23/2014" Traditional christmas story to scare kids into being good. Teaches valuable lessons and is a great holiday story to read. "
— Nolena, 1/20/2014" You think you know this story, but do you remember the miners ? I thought not. This is some of our greatest author's most accessible writing, so pick up or download a copy of this Novella. "
— Hal, 1/19/2014" 'Tis the season. The only problem I had with this book (any of Dickens' books really) is the way he writes. Some of his sentence are too detailed for no reason. "
— Cheyenne, 1/5/2014" The most heavily influential holiday story ever written. "
— Paul, 12/27/2013" Makes me feel humble, charitable, Christmassy & overweight!! Love it! "
— Sarah-jane, 11/30/2013" A fantastic classic from beginning to end. Definitely a good read, worth returning to again and again! "
— Bryony, 11/28/2013" an authentic book of christmas spirit. Excellent wit and imagination. "
— Tu, 11/25/2013" Watched Ashley do a story telling of the, read it myself again, told it to my Tuesday night group. I love this story. "
— Robyn, 11/5/2013" My favorite classic Christmas story. "
— Stephanie, 10/28/2013" A great heart warming story. I enjoyed this immensely even though I knew the story. I will definitely return to this again in years to come. "
— Julie, 10/20/2013" This is one of my favourite books. Written in true Dickens' somewhat long-winded style it can be hard going at first. It is such a 'feel good' story though that it's worth the effort. Well supported by the film (NOT Disney) and The Muppets version is surprisingly accurate to the story and the text. "
— Kathy, 10/20/2013" I have seen so many versions of this on television but I have never read the original. Honestly I don't know why it has taken me so long to do so. This is the greatest Christmas classic of all time, there is no doubt about it, a classic tale of morality made timeless by its Christmas setting. "
— Alannah, 10/18/2013" I read it every year ! "
— Kacey, 8/7/2013" I just listened to the Audible version which was a free gift, Narrated by Tim Curry! I do love to be read to! "
— Cricket, 4/12/2013" I couldn't remember when I first read this book, but I make certain to read it every single Christmas. It is my favorite of all the Christmas stories, and books made into films. "
— Roz, 4/8/2013" A classic I read every year at this time! "
— Kevin, 3/25/2013" I read this one every year, sometimes more than once. It's just impossible to not love this story. "
— Caleb, 2/14/2013" Read it for the first time this past December. Every year, we watch the 1962 film, but neither one of us has ever read it. I was surprised at how short it was. It's an excellent book. "
— Kathy, 1/1/2013" Annual comfort read, but this year treated myself to the Kobo edition on the PC. Still a great book, second only to the film from which it was taken - A Muppets' Christmas Carol. Mr. Dickens stays fairly faithful to the plot. "
— Jane, 12/10/2012" I've always liked this story. It's a bit silly, but really quite cute. And, of course, a classic. Dickens' writing is rather amusing in that the English is a bit dated, and it's sometimes evident that he got paid per word. Nonetheless, I like it. "
— Lucy, 8/30/2012" It isn't Christmas without this classic! "
— Brenda, 6/20/2012" well, my first attempt at a dickens and i have to say, i really enjoyed it!!! certainly helped that i knew the story ( and had seen the Muppets christmas carol!) but wonderfully descriptive in a way tht modern books are not. "
— Mel, 3/15/2012" Everyone should read the original work, if only to see how it differs from all those shows "based on" it. "
— Jan, 2/26/2012" Not as entertaining as his other books - characters are not as developed, story is more superficial. As famous as this story is, the book itself was disappointing. "
— Alex, 1/29/2012" My favorite Christmas story ever! "
— Ashley, 12/29/2011" A must have! I marveled at the descriptive skills of Charles Dickens.a great read.
"
— Spring, 6/28/2011" I've always wanted to read the real version of this story and because I've grown hearing it every Christmas, I never bothered to actually read it. There was nothing new to add but yet, I still enjoyed it. "
— Ruthy, 6/25/2011" And every christmas, I ask myself what will I see when the spirits come? "
— Dodokins, 6/24/2011" Ebeneezer Scrooge - one of the best realised characters in literature :-) "
— Philip, 6/23/2011" This is a good book as good as the film perhaps even better
:)
"
— Zohaib, 6/23/2011" You can't go wrong with Dickens. This is a classic that everyone should read. "
— Heath, 6/21/2011" One of my favorites. Can't wait to see my old school perform the play next year! So exciting! :) "
— Cissi, 6/20/2011" I finally read the book, and loved it! If you like the classic tale, the book is a fun read. The TV and film versions I've seen all have many direct quotes from Dickens. "
— Caryl, 6/19/2011" Just delightful. Dickens is only surpassed by Disney. "
— Steven, 6/14/2011" Performed as a readers' theater in high school "
— Amy, 6/13/2011" I think that this book was very vivid and creative because it has a moral within itself. It teaches you to be generous and kind to others, rather than be a selfish, greedy person that everybody will hate. This book is truly wonderful, almost like a classic within itself. Highly recommended. "
— Hannah, 6/9/2011" it was a pleasure reading this book because i think the guy at the end of all his trials learn that you cant be selfish ,greedy and mean all his life and he learn that being unselifish anf creshirish it for the best .

p.s i spelled a word wrong correct me... "
— Rondell, 6/8/2011" I loved reading the original story because I have seen so many film versions of the Dickens classic. Dickens' writing style is well-crafted and entertaining as well. I found myself laughing at some of the side comments Dickens makes. "
— Margo, 6/5/2011" Loved it! could read it over and over! "
— Barbara, 6/3/2011Charles Dickens (1812–1870) was born in Landport, Portsmouth, England, the second of eight children in a family continually plagued by debt. A legacy brought release from the nightmare of debtors’ prison and child labor and afforded him a few years of formal schooling. He worked as an attorney’s clerk and newspaper reporter until his early writings brought him the amazing success that was to be his for the remainder of his life. He was the most popular English novelist of the Victorian era, and he remains popular, responsible for some of English literature’s most iconic characters.
