Publisher Description

A magical transformation takes place in Danielle Steel’s luminous novel: Strangers become roommates, roommates become friends, and friends become a family in a turn-of-the-century house in Manhattan’s West Village.

The plumbing was prone to leaks, the furniture rescued from garage sales. And every square inch was being devotedly restored to its original splendor—even as a relationship fell to pieces. Now Francesca Thayer, newly separated from her boyfriend, is suddenly the sole mortgage payer on her Greenwich Village townhouse. The struggling art gallery owner does the math and then the unimaginable. She puts out an advertisement for boarders, and soon her home becomes a whole new world.

First comes Eileen, a fresh, pretty L.A. transplant, now a New York City schoolteacher. Then there’s Chris, a young father fighting for custody of his seven-year-old son. The final tenant is Marya, a celebrated cookbook author hoping to start a new chapter in life after the death of her husband. Over the course of one amazing, unforgettable, ultimately life-changing year, Francesca discovers that her accidental tenants have become the most important people in her life. The house at 44 Charles Street fills with laughter, heartbreak, and hope—and in the hands of master storyteller Danielle Steel, it’s a place those who visit will never want to leave.

"I always love a good Danielle Steel book and enjoyed this one more than her last few. It also bought in some disturbing storylines which is unlike this Author. I felt this book had a lot more substance as well so hopefully this will continue in her future books."

" I can't believe this book was written by Danielle Steel. It was poorly written, redundant, repetitive, head hopped all the way through it and it didn't hold my interest. I had to struggle to finish it. The story had a good plot line, but the immature writing took away from the story. "

" If you don't have enough material to write a 319 page book then do it. She only had about enough of a story for 100 pages, then just repeated herself every third paragragh. Very disappointing. "

" It's ok. I've never read any Danielle Steele and I have a feeling I won't anymore. The story was interesting, but as others have said, the writing is terrible. So many things were repeated over and over again that it's like she was trying to beat it into the reader's head that: Internet dating is bad, her mom was married a bunch of times and she didn't want to be like her, etc. There were times when a character would say something like "I don't think online dating is safe", which she had to follow up with another explanation of why that person said what they did. Master of the obvious, I guess. Unfortunately I felt like a child having everything explained to me over and over again. I like to think the author believes I'm smart enough to get it the first time. " Well, this was my first Danielle Steel book & it will probably be my last. Francesca breaks up with her live-in boyfriend. When he moves out, she is stuck with the mortgage, so takes in boarders to help with expenses. The story had potential, but the editing was poorly done. "
