Aretha Frankin (1942—2018) an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. She was a renowned singer of popular music, soul music, and rhythm and blues. In the 1960s she became known as the Queen of Soul. She won eighteen Grammy Awards, and she is one of the bestselling music artists of all time, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom on November 9, 2005. In 2019, she was awarded a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation for her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades. |
