Alec McCowen is an English actor known for his
work in numerous film and stage productions. He first appeared on stage in
1942, made his London debut in 1950, and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company
in 1962. He was awarded the London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actor
as well as two Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Performance for his roles on
Broadway. Although he preferred acting on the stage, he had roles in major
American films, including Gangs of New
York and The Age of Innocence,
and numerous roles in British television productions. As a narrator, he received
critical praise from AudioFile
magazine and was part of the cast of King
Lear in 2003 that was a finalist for
the prestigious Audie Award in for Best Audio Drama. |
