"This is another children's book that I read to Jack. We were packing for the beach when I started it...well, Jack did not want me to put it down. We would have to do a task and then read another chapter. We actually read the book in one day, which was exciting to me because he has never been so captivated by a longer book before. Since I can relate to the feeling of being desperate to know what "happens next", I willingly gave into his wishes and kept reading!"

" Great book to read aloud to kids with shorter attention spans. Great book for those just beginning chapter books to read themselves. "
— Sally, 2/14/2014" This is one of my favorite books to read with children. I found it by chance at the book store, and it became a family favorite almost immediately! "
— Aurea, 2/13/2014" I loved this book as a young girl. I used to open up the book and stare at the color map, wishing I could visit Tangerine island. Still my favorite fantasy map. I also love the story of the boy rescuing his dragon and all the tricks he pulls on the animals. "
— Arwen, 2/11/2014" A delightful fantasy that worked well as a homeschool Kindergarten read aloud. "
— Ebookwormy, 2/9/2014" the art should have a Caldecott Honor as well. "
— Jim, 2/7/2014" This was a great chapter book read-a-loud. We read it on the Kindle, so no pictures, but now I want to check out the picture version from the library so the kids can see it. Audrey loved it and didn't want me to stop reading. "
— Josephine, 2/1/2014" This is one of my favorite books from when my kids were little. THis is the first chapter book that they read. Each chapter was self contained. The hero is able to use his intelligence and creativity to solve the problems that face him. Highly recommend it as a way to get kids hooked on reading... "
— Paulina, 1/23/2014" Very enjoyable fantastical short book about a boy's amusing adventures rescuing a baby dragon. Fun to read aloud. Although it is meant for a young audience, everyone enjoyed it. The pictures a great too. "
— Jann, 1/17/2014" I read this aloud to my 3 year old and 5 year old and they loved it. They found it funny at parts and could imagine what was taking place. A simple story with great lessons. "
— Danielle, 1/16/2014" A very cute, very simple fun book loaned and recommended to me by a very cute 1st Grader I know :) An intriguing and innovative book when you see what comes out of "the father's" backpack to solve the problems with the animals he encounters. I really enjoyed the extremely simple style. "
— Kellie, 1/10/2014" I have such fond memories of reading this book in school. This book is perfect for second graders. It allows their minds to wander and have fun exploring in the scenery described. A must read! "
— Claire, 1/5/2014Ruth Stiles Gannett wrote My Father’s Dragon just a few years after her graduation from Vassar College in 1944. It was an immediate success, becoming a Newbery Honor Book, and was soon followed by two sequels, Elmer and the Dragon and The Dragons of Blueland. All three dragon stories have been continuously in print since their publication. The author’s other books include Katie and the Sad Noise and The Wonderful House-Boat-Train. She was married to the artist and calligrapher Peter Kahn and had seven daughters.
