In this beautiful follow-up to the highly acclaimed My One Hundred Adventures, Jane and her family have moved to Canada . . . but not for long. When her stepfather, Ned, is fired from his job as a high school French teacher (seems he doesn’t speak French), the family packs up and Jane embarks on a series of new adventures. At first, she imagines her family as a gang of outlaws, riding on horseback in masks, robbing trains, and traveling all the way to Mexico. But the reality is different: Setting off by car, they visit the tribe of Native Americans with whom Ned once lived, head to Las Vegas in search of Ned’s magician brother, and wind up spending the summer with his eccentric mother on her ranch out west. As Jane lives through it all—developing a crush on a ranch hand, reevaluating her relationship with Ned, watching her sister Maya’s painful growing up—she sees her world, which used to be so safe and secure, shift in strange and inconvenient ways.

"Jane is ready for her whole family to hit the road - and their choice will lead them to many adventures with relatives and strangers alike. This book is told through the eyes of Jane. She wants an adventure, but it turns into a family reunion for Ned, her stepfather. When Ned gets a bag of money left from his brother they are off to find him, but can't so they head to Ned's mothers place. Ned's mother falls off a horse and is bed ridden, so Ned calls his sisters to come help. This turns into a family reunion for Ned. They all end up trying to help Ned's mother but they seem to forget to ask what Ned's mother wants. The characters in this book are very good and I enjoyed reading about their lives. Does Ned and his family get things worked out? You'll have to read the book to find out."

" A bit scattered in some aspects, but I really like the characters and all of their struggles are so true to life. The ending was too too abrupt! "
— Stephanie, 2/8/2014" Fabulous author. Good plot. I really enjoyed this book. The writing is so excellent I'd want everyone to hear it, but some of the themes would stop me from sharing with less mature children. "
— Bridget, 2/7/2014" I enjoyed Northward to the Moon better than My One Hundred Adventures. Somehow Jane sounded more like a kid the second time around...or maybe I've just gotten used to her. Fun read. "
— Eileen, 2/5/2014" Great character development for several characters in the book - esp. the pre-teen narrator. Ending has an interesting twist. "
— Karen, 2/5/2014" This is a quirky tale that, despite all of its odd and barely believable plot twists, is emotionally pitch-perfect. When teenager Jane's stepfather Ned loses his job (he was teaching a language that he doesn't speak), the family decides to leave the prairies of Saskatchewan and return to coastal Massachusetts. But they take the long (as in looong) way around, traveling west to find a bag of cash hidden under an elderly First Nation woman's bed, then south to meet Ned's mother, who is the unlikely owner of a Nevada horse ranch. It's all whacky, but it all rings true, thanks to luminous writing by Polly Horvath. "
— Newport, 1/20/2014" Not as good as My One Hundred Adventures, but still.......... "
— Linda, 1/18/2014" A little bit of crazy fun. It helps to remember reading "My One Hundred Adventures". "
— Lee, 1/14/2014" Cannot wait to get started on this one. "
— Pachyderm, 12/22/2013" Boy, Polly Horvath can do characters! Jane, Maya, Dorothy, Ned, even the aunts are so vivid that I can picture them. Everyone acts true to their natures, as Horvath describes them. Excellent sequel to a great book. "
— Lindi, 12/11/2013" While it maintains the charm of its predecessor, There is an element missing (which I can't quite figure out), that keeps it from being a classic young adult book. "
— Scott, 11/27/2013" Our whole family listened to this on a trip and really enjoyed it. There must be another book coming, because it kind of left us hangin'. "
— Amber, 9/17/2013" Too quirky and pointless to qualify as good juvenille fiction. Really stupid ending. Unfocused plot and character development throughout, and lacking an insightful narrator. "
— Alison, 7/22/2013" horvath does a great job of making the mundane magical, she is a good writer, liked this better than the first one "
— Rodney, 11/19/2012" This was a 4 star book for me until the last line. What the heck? "
— Bonnie, 9/2/2012" Mostly kept my attention. Mostly interesting in most parts. Not a stunner, but I LOVED her other book, EVERYTHING ON A WAFFLE. "
— Jody, 3/10/2012" This book is very hard to explain in words. I mean, there are some parts of the book that are so real, yet there are some parts of the book that just make you wonder about things that that. Yet, this book is great. This is a great book. Read and enjoy. :) "
— Sarah, 12/23/2011" Full of crazy characters, humor, and insight into human nature, this totally unpredictable book almost got a 5 rating (4 1/2 because I wasn't sure about the ending). A follow-up story to My One Hundred Adventures which I adored. I am a fan of Polly Horvath. "
— Lorna, 6/23/2011" This was a very good book! It was full of suspence especially at the end when it just says" The next day Ned was gone, and he left a note!" This book just makes you keep reading to find out what happens!!!! "

— Jody, 12/30/2010" Polly Horvath is one of my favorite middle grade writers. Like in her previous books, this one blends realism and complex characters with just enough whimsy to keep things surprising. "
— Sarah, 11/14/2010" Ever since I read Everything on a Waffle I've thought I just loved Polly Horvath's writing, but it suddenly occurs to me that maybe I just love Everything on a Waffle. "
