He established the James Patterson Pledge with Scholastic Book Clubs in 2015 to put books in the hands of young readers. And since then, Patterson has donated over 2 million books to school kids and more than 40 million dollars for education support. He has also given thousands of college scholarships for teachers.

Patterson is a full-time writer, living in Palm Beach, Florida with his wife Susan (Sue), and son, Jack.
