In the small Minnesota shore town of Flame Lake, a close-knit group of friends find their comfortable lives taking some unforeseen turns. Best friends Devera and BiDi were recently voted "Least Changed" at their twentieth high school reunion, but Devera is starting to think of the label as insulting. Sure, she loves her husband and still believes being a wife and mother is the main entree on life's plate . . . but she longs for some more exotic side dishes. Lorna Landvik, author of Patty Jane's House of Curl, creates real, resilient people we come to know and love, and stories with brilliant wit and amazing resonance.

" While not as good as "Oh My Stars", I enjoyed this book and thought the characters were well written. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Peggy | 2/12/2014

" another good one by Landvik. I really like her characters. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Jonna | 2/11/2014

" She has written several great books, I don't know why this is the only one that slotted up but of you are fortunate enough to find a book by her, grab it! You will be in for a treat! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Cindy | 2/10/2014

" After reading some pretty dark and serious books lately, I needed a quick, light read and Lorna Landvik is perfect for that. Enjoyed her "Patty Jane's House of Curl" a few years ago and this book is similar. Told from the viewpoints of five people...two married couples and the daughter of one of the couples...the title refers to a little club Dick built in his basement for the enjoyment of his friends. Some teen angst, a couple of affairs, a beating, a serious accident, doesn't make it sound like a 'light read' exactly, does it? But toss in some humor and simple lives in a small town and it is a pleasant and quick diversion of a read. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Heather | 2/8/2014

" I have loved all the other Lorna Landvik books I've read to date. But this one left me feeling disappointed. Most of the characters had little in the way of redeeming qualities, so it was hard for me to have any empathy for them. Definitely not among my favorites. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 E | 2/5/2014

" This is the third book I've read of hers. They are stand alone books. I've enjoyed them enough to search for her other books. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sue Jellum | 2/5/2014

" The first few chapters of her books, it is hard to figure out who people are. I like how her characters aren't perfect but you still like them (most of them) "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Kimberly | 2/1/2014

" Thoroughly enjoyed another Lorna Landvik novel (picked up 4 more at the library this afternoon). The end was one of those that left me with the impression that the author wasn't sure how to end it so she just ended it, right there. Yet, it worked. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Angela | 1/23/2014

" I love Landvik's books. This is a fun one, written in several voices, changing view point, chapter by chapter. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Drredman | 1/18/2014

" Enjoyed to book, it is a quick read and an interesting story. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Mary | 1/14/2014

" Characters are clever and offbeat but not developed in great depth. A light read. Fun but not memoriable. I just read the book and already had to glance through to remind myself of the characters. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Emily | 12/27/2013

" Even though I didn't love this as much as the two other Landvik books I've read, I'm still affectionate about it. Lorna Landvik's stories are my comfort food. I don't regret leaving Minnesota, but whenever I'm overwhelmed with irritation for New York City, her books are like a little hug from home. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Mindy | 12/11/2013

" This one was okay, but certainly not one of Landvik's best. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Mary | 12/4/2013

" I enjoyed this book very much, but it did take me a while to get in to it. I loved the character Darcey. She would be a wonderful kid to have around, so grown up for a 12 year old. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Erica | 11/28/2013

" I really enjoy the author, so I figured I'd try another one while laying poolside. Although this wasn't my favorite of hers, I still enjoyed it! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Cindy | 10/24/2013

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Judypyper | 10/16/2013

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sheri | 1/19/2013

" It was ok,no where near as good as party's house of curl or angry housewives eating bonbons,I think it was because I just didn't like the characters as much.she tells the story like she always does you feel like you are there with her.i liked the children but not the adults.. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Indra | 12/27/2012

" More unique characters than "Patty Jane's House of Curl", more immediate family drama, but also set in a small community of likable people. I liked the character of Franny the most. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Loretta | 12/13/2012

" Another winner from Lorna Landvik! "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Mandy | 9/12/2012

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Andi | 8/24/2012

" The darkest Landvik novel I've read. Both the story line and the characters were dark, neither of the main characters were very likeable, one is horrible to everyone she knows and the other has an affair. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Terry | 8/11/2012

" Glad I didn't read this Lorna Landvik book first because I wouldn't have ever wasted time on another. It looks like the other readers say the same - that this is not her best book. So, I'll probably try one more of her books, after I finish the other 100 or so on my to-do list. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jackie | 8/6/2012

" I actually really enjoyed this book! The characters were fun and pretty fleshed out. The only complaint I have is just nit-picky. There was a letter written by a kid and the poor spelling was just too outrageous. I hate it when people try too hard to do things like that. Just a pet peeve. "
