Publisher Description

Critically acclaimed and award-winning - but hardly best-selling - author Georgina Jackson can't get past the first chapter of her second book. When she receives an urgent email from her agent, Georgina is certain it's bad news. Shockingly, she's offered a commission to complete a newly discovered unfinished manuscript by a major 19th-century author. Skeptical at first about her ability to complete the manuscript, Georgina is horrified to learn that the author in question is Jane Austen.

Torn between pushing through or fleeing home to America, Georgina relies on the support of her banker-turned-science-student roommate, Henry, and his quirky teenage sister, Maud - a serious Janeite. With a sudden financial crisis looming, the only way Georgina can get by is to sign the hugely lucrative contract and finish the book.

"Perfect book for traveling. Aston has chosen to write a modern story for this novel and it was fun. I thought the ending was a bit rushed but maybe that was the whole point. There are several very witty lines and pay attention to characters names."

" An enjoyable read where the pieces come together at the end, some in unexpected ways. I did get frustrated at times with the amount of time the main character wasted away (toward her writing deadline) by procrastinating & just plain running away, but now I'm laughing at myself - how uptight am I that her deadline was looming over me? " Dragged for a bit but once Georgina got into the Austen books it got better. Great characters except Georgina who I just didn't like much. "

" I don't have anything particularly biting to say about this book, but it wasn't anything to special. It was okay, I may read it again someday when I'm really bored, but for now, it's going back on my paperbackswap.com listing. "

" The premise is interesting and appears promising, but it just fell flat for me. I did love the section where the protagonist reads all 6 Austen novels without a break. It reminds me of how I can get caught up in wonderful books. Aston's writing was descriptive, but I just couldn't love it (or even like it that much). "

" This book was not what I expected, but it wasn't disappointing either. However I was constantly exasperated by the main character. I kept yelling at her to read read read. Followed by write write write! The ending was a surprise to me, and I enjoyed the turn the book took. "

" I hate whiny heroines. This book is incredibly boring - Gina whines, runs away and generally acts like a unlikeable snob for 3/4 of the book. Somehow in the last 1/4 of the book, she writes a great novel and falls in love but by then I just did not care. Skip this one. "

" This was better than I expected. A modern writer, with writer's block, must try to complete a very short newly found Austen manuscript. It actually said some interesting things about Austen's life and methods of plotting and using characterization. Rather enjoyable. "

" I loved this book. It was clever and interesting and I could not put it down. It is rare that I finish a book so fast but I was hooked. I recommend it to anyone who is a Jane Austen fan and those who are Austen-curious. "

" I may be being a bit generous here. I found the characters boring and the story not very interesting. I listened to it in my car, on CD and the only reason I continued listening to it was that I had hope. I haven't read anything else by Elizabeth Aston and I am not sure I will give her another try. " Fun romp with a writer in England who's asked to complete a recently discovered incomplete JA manuscript--great! Except the writer has never read JA, knows nothing about her and really really doesn't want to do it....chaos ensues. "

" I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't read it. The main character just spends too much time running away and avoiding what she obviously needs to do. I can't keep reading this. I'm on page 139 and she hasn't done a thing. Very frustrating. "
