Publisher Description

Agnes Wilkins is standing in front of an Egyptian mummy, about to make the first cut into the wrappings, about to unlock ancient (and not-so-ancient) history. Maybe you think this girl is wearing a pith helmet with antique dust swirling around her. Maybe you think she is a young Egyptologist who has arrived in Cairo on camelback. Maybe she would like to think that too. Agnes Wilkins dreams of adventures that reach beyond the garden walls, but reality for a seventeen-year-old debutante in 1815 London does not allow for camels—or dust, even. No, Agnes can only see a mummy when she is wearing a new silk gown and standing on the verdant lawns of Lord Showalter’s estate, with chaperones fussing about and strolling sitar players straining to create an exotic “atmosphere” for the first party of the season. An unwrapping. This is the start of it all, Agnes’s debut season, the pretty girl parade that offers only ever-shrinking options: home, husband, and high society. It’s also the start of something else, because the mummy Agnes unwraps isn’t just a mummy. It’s a host for a secret that could unravel a new destiny—unleashing mystery, an international intrigue, and possibly a curse in the bargain. Get wrapped up in the adventure . . . but keep your wits about you, dear Agnes. From Hardcover edition.

"The first thing that catched my eye and made me grab the book instantly was the amazing cover. But I rated it five stars because I loved how the plot was developing in a slow but delightful way. The way Agnes thinks and feels about others was so admirable. I really enjoyed reading this book! "

" Bradbury has created a delightful mixture of The X-Files (but not quite so freaky), Jane Austen (but not quite so much romance), and Spy Games (but not quite so serious). I really enjoyed Wrapped. Yes, it is a little far fetched, but it is so much fun. "

" This book combined two things that I love: Egyptology and 1800s high society London. Those things do not seem to go together, but Jennifer Bradbury manages it here. I thought the romance and the espionage aspect were fun, although quite unrealistic. What drew me to this book originally was the gorgeous cover. Finding out is about mummies made me want to read it even more. The story was fun, the mystery kept you reading, but in the end it was just an okay book. I have read worse and better. I still have several middle schoolers I would recommend this too though. "

" A great yarn - I particularly appreciated the inclusion of an Author's note, detailing a couple of deviations from known history. Gives me confidence that even tho this is a bit of fiction, the author has taken a deal of care to make sure details are right and true. "

" Pretty anachronistic...and the characters aren't terribly well-developed/believable. Fun if you enjoy regency England and (sort of cliched) heroines who buck the traditional gender expectations of their time. "
