When a naïve encounter at a coronation party leaves sixteen-year-old Janet Slater pregnant, there’s no question in her scandalized parents’ minds of her keeping the baby. Bundled off to a home for unmarried mothers in South London, Janet is about to face the hardest moment of her sheltered life alone. Forced to give her tiny daughter up for adoption, Janet promises her that one day, come what may, she’ll find her.
In the years that follow, it seems that however hard Janet tries, it is a promise that is impossible to keep. Nonetheless, she builds her life around her secret, and Paula, her lost daughter, is never far from her thoughts. Finally, her searching pays off, and the road to their longed-for reunion seems clear—but then a new shadow falls across the fragile happiness of both their lives.

"a nice story of a girl who is pregnant at sixteen and forced to give her child up for adoption; her constant perseverance to try and find her daughter; the feelings of trust, friendship and mother/daughter relationship have to be built from scratch."

“Nadia May excels in just this type of light romantic story, and brings all her skills to the fore…Her strong and not always nice women take on clear lives and personalities even beyond the text.”
— AudioFile“Semi-voiced by the expert May, this unabridged romance is not sexually explicit [and] doesn’t glorify single motherhood…It does lead the hearer to an extraordinary number of peaks and valleys experienced by mother and daughter.”
— Kliatt" I actually give this only 2 1/2 but 1/2 aren't available. "
— Monica, 9/23/2012" An easy and quick read however boring and repetitious at times. "
