"This book has been out of print and unavailable for a while, so I was delighted when I saw this has been reprinted. I have, of course, read the subsequent two books in the series so it was great to finally read where it all began. Very passionate book, with some really love depth of feeling. Well paced and while there was a background plot with smuggling, it was centred around the development of the romance and emotion between the two characters which is what I feel a romance should be. Wonderful read!"

" Another one of those "favorite" books that I had to check out. It wasn't really to my taste. It was alright but it lagged a bit too much for any real enjoyment. "
— Pamela(AllHoney), 2/9/2014" I'm leaving my 5 star rating in place for this wonderful book. Narrator Heather Wilds is one who employs oddly timed pauses. I'm not sure if this is deliberate or the result of inadequate preparation. I just know that I notice it and it distracts me. 3.5 stars for the narration. "
— Diana, 1/16/2014" 3.5/5 stars! Liked the characters! Liked the plot! Liked the witty conversations! Loved the sexual tension! Though for me the pace is little bit slow. Kind of draggy. Overall, quite a unique spy-and-romance kind of novel. "
— Ayana, 12/25/2013" I liked the ending of it and the premise did initially capture my interest but throughout most of the book I felt like I was missing an important piece of information that I was supposed to have. Not a terrible read but not something I'll probably read again. "
— Liz, 12/25/2013" Finally discovered why so many people love this book. I like Bourne and Kinsale books beter but this is very well written in regards to Thomas' feelings. What a devotion to an ideal who brought him from the depths of suicide. Would always recommend to someone to read. "
— Barbara, 11/26/2013" Simply put one of the best books around. The stoyline is meager but Ms. Ashworth brings both hero and heroine alive on paper. Also, it's nice to see that sometimes it's the woman trying to avoid matrimony. "
— Angela, 11/26/2013" I liked the plot of this historical romance and the hero was so lovable but the heroine was overly set in her ways and the story had too many details so I skimmed a lot. Spy Madeline is asked to join fellow spy Thomas in uncovering a smuggling ring. "
— Dawn, 11/19/2013" Loved this book in print when I read it ten years ago. I was totally swept up in the audio as well. It's definitely on my relisten shelf now. "
— Lea's, 10/25/2013" Excellent story. Great characters. Wonderful ending. "
— Shanna, 8/28/2013" This was a very good read. The hero was very heartbreaking and romantic. Will be on my re-read shelf for sure. "
— Heather, 6/25/2013" Very good book with sensual love scenes. "
— Teri, 11/20/2012" This seems like an OK romance, but too slow paced for my current mood. Perhaps I will re-read it at another time...but for now, shelving it. "
— Huong, 10/14/2012" Got to page 53. Did not finish book. Very dry and boring. Author uses names too much which is annoying and the actors relay info through endless dialogue. - Not interested in completing book. "
— Martini, 9/20/2012" DNF. Slow to start and I felt nothing but dislike for the heroine. "
