Publisher Description

High in the Transylvanian woods, at the castle Piscul Draculi, live five daughters and their doting father. It's an idyllic life for Jena, the second eldest, who spends her time exploring the mysterious forest with her constant companion, a most unusual frog. But best by far is the castle's hidden portal, known only to the sisters. Every Full Moon, they alone can pass through it into the enchanted world of the Other Kingdom. There they dance through the night with the fey creatures of this magical realm. But their peace is shattered when Father falls ill and must go to the southern parts to recover, for that is when cousin Cezar arrives. Though he's there to help the girls survive the brutal winter, Jena suspects he has darker motives in store. Meanwhile, Jena's sister has fallen in love with a dangerous creature of the Other Kingdom--an impossible union it's up to Jena to stop. When Cezar's grip of power begins to tighten, at stake is everything Jena loves: her home, her family, and the Other Kingdom she has come to cherish. To save her world, Jena will be tested in ways she can't imagine--tests of trust, strength, and true love.

"This novel has a great twist on The Frog Prince and The Twelve Dancing Princesses stories. Jena's best friend is a frog that when finally kissed with love becomes her prince. There was romance, fantasy, strong women characters, and good story telling. It was also obvious Marillier had done her homework and really knew about Transylvania and the culture and customs of the country. The only part I didn't like was the reference to vampires. I could have done without that. I am so tired of hearing about vampires. Other than that, I thought this was a great novel that I plan to go out and buy. I look forward to reading other novels in the series."

" I will read anything with a KY Craft cover because she is an artistic genius. Alas, I think I almost liked the cover better than the story in Wildwood Dancing. I loved the Transylvanian setting, the twist on vampires, and the mixing of familiar fairy tales - the frog prince and twelve dancing princesses. I wanted to love this book, but I just liked it. I chafed so much under the oppression of the vile Cesar that I had to skim his parts, and the liberation couldn't come soon enough. I also think he didn't quite get the come-uppance he deserved. I wanted to love the fairy world, but I found it too sinister to enjoy. "

" Had I read this as a kid, I believe my rating would have been 4 or even 5 stars. Loved the fantasy element, and the true love theme. However, as an adult the story seemed to drag quite a bit and I was able to guess most of the plot twists :( "
