Publisher Description

Grant Stevens, a mid-level manager for the Bureau of Reclamation, only wanted to build dams. He never imagined he would be swept into a desperate race against an environmental terrorist bent on restoring the Colorado River by blowing up the dams. Left temporarily in charge of the Bureau, Grant must react when the first dam is attacked. He faces the unthinkable task of mitigating the massive flood roaring down the Colorado. The flood will eventually threaten the mighty Hoover Dam, and if Hoover fails, the other dams downstream will fall like dominos.

Working with the FBI, Grant uses his engineering skills, river knowledge, and plenty of gut instinct in an attempt to outmaneuver the terrorist. The chase will lead all the way downstream to the Gulf of California in a cat and mouse game where the stakes are high and the potential for destruction is enormous.

"This novel, which was a finalist in The Whitney's this March, well earned that recognition, as this novel hits with a resounding bang!!! The action is non stopping and it comes to a loud climax. The story begins with a twisted environmentalist, bombing several of the dams along the Colorado River, attempting to restore the Colorado River. It takes Grant Stevens, a mid-level manager for the Bureau of Reclamation, to try and stay one step ahead of the bomber and attempt to find out why he is doing this. This is a great book for learning about the Colorado River, about the intricacies of dams and the damage and destruction that the River does by being unleashed. We see how ineffective beaucracy can be in situations like this. We see the heroes who step up to the plate to save lives and see how everyday people handle these grave situations. If you want a roller-coaster ride down the Colorado River down to the Mexican border, you'll love this thrilling page turner. I highly recommend this fascinating novel to everyone."

" Although homophonic and punctuational errors abound, this book is very well-written and a great quick read. I hear a second edition with many corrections is about to come out. There is something about quadrillions of gallons of water escaping their boundaries and causing destruction that appeals to me - haven't we all wished we could see a dam break? Anyway, I would recommend this to anyone who is into novels that don't require a lot of analysis or pondering. Which is me, I guess, at least during semester breaks. "

" Interesting book. First few chapters slow then had a hard time putting it down. Very educational (hopefully correct) about the Colorado River and dam systems. "

" Superbly researched, very well written. Takes place in my "backyard" the Colorado River lakes. Gripping and a wonderful education on the building and workings of dams. Couldn't put it down. "

" I actually know this author! This is a great book-an envirornmental terrorist situation taking place in a part of the country I love--southern Utah. The author did a lot of research to make this book very believable. I highly recommend this book. "

" I enjoyed the book but there were a few dry parts (not a pun). Some of the things were surreal but it was still a good read. Whether or not the engineering is correct or not I really didn't care. "
