Seana Smith was born in Scotland and was brought up just twelve miles from Edinburgh, in the village of Ormiston. She studied Classics and Old and Medieval English at the University of Oxford before working for ten years as a TV researcher and producer at Channel 9 in Sydney, and at the BBC in London and Glasgow.
