Venus in Furs is the best known work of the Austrian writer Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, who based this tale of love, humiliation, and obsession largely on his own life, and gave the English language the word "masochism." A compelling, well-written story of torment and sexual domination, it has inspired and influenced many psychologists, artists, and writers, from Thomas Mann to the Velvet Underground, since its first publication in 1870.

"because I was sold and betrayed by a woman (an actress) who affected the strictest principles and the most refined sensibility, I developed a hatred for poetic and sentimental virtue. Give me a woman honest enough to say, “I am La Pompadour, a Lucretia Borgia” - she is the woman I will worship. "

" The book that started it all. And how it all became so shiny, leathery and black when it was born white, silky and with frills. "
— Ron, 3/6/2011" Story about a man desperate to slave for the woman of his dreams. Sexy, heart draining and absolutely beautiful. "
— Noora, 2/22/2011" perverty but good if possible "
Forse è davvero troppo datato come stile. "
— Carlo, 1/3/2011" Letztendlich wohl doch eher von historischer Bedeutung als eine großartige Lektüre. "
— Enzo, 12/11/2010" Beautifully written and poignant book. "
