Something is killing off immortals, one by one.

Taelen Jessit is an alien emissary on a mission sanctioned by the U.S. government to search for ancient gods. His hunt leads him to a dig headed by archaeologist Rachel Cruz. When his military entourage forces Rachel's team out of the cave they were exploring, a flash flood hits the riverbed and threatens to tear them through the ravine.

In the aftermath of the flood, Taelen witnesses the incredible healing of Rachel's broken ankle and believes his gods have blessed her. He is inexplicably drawn to her, and she to him.

What Taelen doesn't know is that Rachel is Nephilim - a descendant of the gods his people worship masquerading as a human - to find the god-killer and destroy it. Rachel needs help to bring down the tech that is manipulating the Earth's magnetosphere and frying her people alive. She's given Taelen her heart, but can she trust him with her secret?

" Not Sparks' best novel. But good. I didn't feel attached to the characters as I have in the past. They just seemed very plain. Nothing extraordinary, which is usually Sparks' best quality in his writing, but this time they were plain, ordinary, and dull. The ending was... not the best. "

" Not one of his best novels... It was a let down especially if you've read Safe Haven before this one. Plus the dancing part in the cabin's kitchen was too cliche already... If you want simple though, this one's for you. "

" Enjoyed this book but wouldn't say i was blown away by it. It was a typical Nicholas Sparks book. Guy likes girl, girl likes guy, plays hard to get, obstacles in the relationship....etc. Pretty predictable. If you're looking for a quick summer book then this is a good book. "

" The first few chapters were slow, and I had a hard time really paying attention to what I was reading. I continued because I have never been disappointed by any other books by Nicholas Sparks. I am glad that I continued reading! "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Bridgett Shrader | 1/2/2014

" Probably my least favorite Sparks book. It was a bit too over the top mushy. I can see a man searching out his love once but not repeatedly... It just doesn't work that way. "

" I loved this one. If only real love existed in that way. For a man like Nicolas sparks to write such great novels is unbelievable. His wife Cathy is a lucky woman if he portrays similar acts as the men in his stories. "
