"Ms. Mckinney-Whetstone lives in Philadelphia and she superbly describes the city in a way that only a resident could. Additionally, she writes a darn good novel. This is very good--not as good as "Blues Dancing," my favorite of hers, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was sorry when it ended."

" I generally love this author, but this book was not as great to me. The characters never seem to develop and that is usually what I like about this author. "
— Tondelaya, 1/12/2014" This author never lets me down. Being a Philly native, I absolutely LOVE reading her novels based in my hometown. "
— Candy, 10/17/2013" Love, love, love this book! "
— Leslie, 8/13/2013" A dark drama of a generation of three women dealing with menta illness, alcoholism and family secrets. Moves a bit slow; author uses flashback sequences as a handy aid. Lots of potential, but I needed more character development. "
— Lanette, 7/26/2013" liked how this book flowed. and really liked the character development. didn't want it to end. "
— Anita, 5/18/2013" Though I read the book some years ago, I'm listening to the audio version now. "
— Reads4Pleasure, 4/20/2013" This is an eerie, profoundly sad novel. I found myself caring deeply for the characters and hoping that their pain would lift somehow. "
— Eliza, 1/30/2013" I'd read mixed reviews about this title, but I'm glad I didn't let that stop me from picking it up anyway. This novel was a treat and my first introduction to Mckinney-Whetstone's work. Now, I intend to go back and read her other titles. "
— Lori, 4/17/2012" Not my favorite McKinney-Whetstone book, but a solid, good read. I would give it 3 1/2 stars if I could. "
— Wilhelmina, 4/7/2010" Pertains to the complexities of relationships between several generations of women, under many different circumstances. A rich novel, with a bit of a dark side, that I really enjoyed. "
— Anna, 3/10/2010" I normally love Diane McKinney-Whetstone, but this book left was just awful. I didn't like any of the characters and hated the slow psycho mind of the main character. "
— Stephanie, 3/1/2010" This is probably not the type of book that one should read in the midst of a national and personal economic crisis. BUT, Neena is pure gold. And I had to laugh at "granite - the new formica" "
— Linda, 7/24/2009" This book was another winner for Diane McKinney-Whetstone. The story was enjoyable, sent in the city of Philadelphia. Easy read, I won't hesitate to recommend this book to my friends. "
— Gwendolyn, 6/3/2009" Friday Night Book Club "
