That Kevin Smith? The guy who did “Clerks” a million years ago? Didn’t they bounce his fat ass off a plane once? What could you possibly learn from the director of “Cop Out”? How about this: he changed filmmaking forever when he was twenty-three, and since then, he’s done whatever the hell he wants. He makes movies, writes comics, owns a store, and now he’s built a podcasting empire with his friends and family, including a wife who’s way out of his league. So here’s some tough shit: Kevin Smith has cracked the code. Or, he’s just cracked.
Tough Sh*t is the dirty business that Kevin has been digesting for 41 years and now, he’s ready to put it in your hands. Smear this shit all over yourself, because this is your blueprint (or brownprint) for success. Kev takes you through some big moments in his life to help you live your days in as Gretzky a fashion as you can: going where the puck is gonna be. Read all about how a zero like Smith managed to make ten movies with no discernible talent, and how when he had everything he thought he’d ever want, he decided to blow up his own career. Along the way, Kev shares stories about folks who inspired him (like George Carlin), folks who befuddled him (like Bruce Willis), and folks who let him jerk off onto their legs (like his beloved wife, Jen).
So make this your daily reader. Hell, read it on the toilet if you want. Just make sure you grab the bowl and push, because you’re about to take one Tough Sh*t.

"Honestly, 3-3.5 stars but that isn't the point. This is Kevin Smith. My tubby brother from another mother. I actually liked Mall Rats and didn't barf when I saw Jersey Girl. (Thank George Carlin for that one). There is a little of Kevin in all of us. Not the bodily fluid part, the every-man part. This book is his tale of how and average guy followed his dreams and with some luck got to do some really cool shit with some great people and didn't seem to lose his humility along the way. I didn't learn anything earth shattering but I laughed and in the big scheme of things, isn't that all that really matters?"

“Offering up an amazingly fun and loose performance that often boasts the spontaneity of a podcast, Smith takes listeners through his life story with good-natured—if occasionally brutal—honesty…Listeners are likely to feel that instead of listening to an audiobook, they’re engaged in a conversation—albeit one-sided—with Kevin Smith.”
— Publishers Weekly“No one other than Smith could deliver this audiobook and do it justice. It’s one of the funniest, and most poignant, books of the year…His voice is commanding yet pleasing…and his intelligence shines through the occasional vulgarity. Smith may be one of the most engaging speakers of his generation—it’s impossible to turn this off…This is an audiobook you’ll listen to more than once.”
— AudioFile" I'm a big Smith fanboy so my opinion is a bit "askiewed" but I loved the book. Story of how the man became the man and things that happened along the way. Good read. "
— Josh, 2/18/2014" Love this - very much in the style of his Smodcasts - better yet I got a signed copy when I was recently in Smith's hometown of Red bank NJ, so this one will be a keeper. "
— Dennis, 1/24/2014" I love Kevin Smith. I can listen to him/read his words forever. This book is a very up-to-date version of stuff that's been going on recently. He blazes through Clerks-Jersey Girl and talks mostly about Cop Out, Red State and the infamous "too fat to fly" incident. He talks a lot about his early experiences with Miramax and the arc he took with the Weinstein's over the years, to the ultimate implosion of the relationship around the time of Red State's release. For someone who's already a fan (and already knows the level of profanity to expect) this book is great. Probably not one that's going to garner him a new audience, but it doesn't feel like that's what he's trying for here anyway. "
— Derek, 1/17/2014" If you're a fan of Kevin Smith at all (and honestly, who isn't? ....Really? Not Mallrats, not Clerks, not even Dogma? Well, suck it. 37 times. And then go away.) then it's a good read. You almost don't even need an audiobook to exist because it's like the man himself talking in your ear. It's not profound but it is a decent look into the mind of the guy who inspired a helluva lot of clever dialogue in more recent movies. "
— Michele, 1/5/2014" From his live shows, to his podcasts, and now to print medium .... This guy is one of the greatest entertainers of my time. "
— Kyle, 12/29/2013" This guy is straight up funny. Love his self-depreciating humor. "
— Scott, 12/19/2013" Interesting if you are a Kevin Smith fan, if you aren't skip it. A quick read. "
— Dan, 11/27/2013" Regrettably, I am too "mature" for potty humor; KS still kicks ass though. "
— David, 10/28/2013" I'm a big Kevin Smith fan, so I'd read anything he wrote, but I thought My Boring-Ass Life was much better than this. "
— Bybee, 10/11/2013" Loved this book. Listened to it on Audible. It was honest, profane and laugh out loud funny. I appreciated his pearls of wisdom, and took away a few pieces of it to carry with me in daily life. If you are a Kevin Smith fan, you will love it. "
— Melissa, 9/10/2013" listened to the audio book and it was great. "
— Mckinlay, 6/9/2013" Bleh. Why on earth did I read this? Huge waste of time and so not me. "
— False, 3/29/2013" Good times. I reminded me a lot of hanging out and having fun in high school "
— Michealbank, 2/26/2013" Funny, inspiring, with plenty of his trademark colourful language. The chapter on how he met his wife and how much he is grateful for her sacrifice is honest and funny at the same time. "
— Ernest, 8/3/2012" Love the Kevin Smith films and this gives you a good idea of what happened on site at several of his films as well his love affair with Number 99 - Wayne Gretzky. "
— Andrew, 7/19/2012" Kevin Smith was an incredible influence on my formative years, and reading (allright listening to the book on CD) during a time of writer's block was an incredibly invigorating experience. "
— M.R., 6/30/2012" good book. Too much cussing. "
