In his signature larger-than-life style, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Total Recall is a revealing self-portrait of his illustrious, controversial, and truly unique life.
The greatest immigrant success story of our time.
His story is unique, and uniquely entertaining, and he tells it brilliantly in these pages.
He was born in a year of famine, in a small Austrian town, the son of an austere police chief. He dreamed of moving to America to become a bodybuilding champion and a movie star.
By the age of twenty-one, he was living in Los Angeles and had been crowned Mr. Universe.
Within five years, he had learned English and become the greatest bodybuilder in the world.
Within ten years, he had earned his college degree and was a millionaire from his business enterprises in real estate, landscaping, and bodybuilding. He was also the winner of a Golden Globe Award for his debut as a dramatic actor in Stay Hungry.
Within twenty years, he was the world’s biggest movie star, the husband of Maria Shriver, and an emerging Republican leader who was part of the Kennedy family.
Thirty-six years after coming to America, the man once known by fellow bodybuilders as the Austrian Oak was elected governor of California, the seventh largest economy in the world.
He led the state through a budget crisis, natural disasters, and political turmoil, working across party lines for a better environment, election reforms, and bipartisan solutions.
With Maria Shriver, he raised four fantastic children. In the wake of a scandal he brought upon himself, he tried to keep his family together.
Until now, he has never told the full story of his life, in his own voice.
Here is Arnold, with total recall.

"I really enjoyed this book - his story is very inspiring and he accomplished a great deal in his life with good work ethic and a great attitude. Those for looking for answers to his marital misdeeds won't find much. He takes full responsibility and assigns blame to no one but him self, but gives few details (which is fine with me, I wasn't interested in the dirty laundry) Overall I found it a very compelling read and an epic journey."

" I would of liked it if Arnold had narrated the whole book and not just the introduction and a summary. But I enjoyed it all the same. He is a very determined man. "
— A.B, 8/23/2023" I would of liked it if Arnold had narrated the whole book and not just the introduction and a summary. But I enjoyed it all the same. He is a very determined man. "
— A.B, 8/23/2023" I really enjoyed the book but I am a fan of all he accomplished but he did go into his political career alot but then again its a very important part of his life. "
— Clare, 2/13/2014" An interesting read. seems heavily biased in favour of Arnold, major scandals in his life seem to be missed out, glossed over or given minimal time in the book. Perhaps 'Partial Recall' or 'Heavily biased Recall' would have been more accurate titles, still it was an interesting read, often inspiring and worth the time I invested doing so. Clearly there is a lot more to him than the ageing action hero portrayed on the silver screen. "
— Matt, 2/12/2014" Definitely a quick read. Provided the background and the fire that propelled Arnold through his life. "
— Deborah, 2/8/2014" Arnold is a true character. Love him or hate him, his life has been a fascinating adventure. I enjoyed his unmeasurable bravado in this book, and came away rather impressed with all he's accomplished. Easy, fun read. "
— Erik, 2/2/2014" A very good read about the life of Arnold. Perhaps told a bit too much through rose-colored glasses, but he did accomplish a great many things. "
— Jacques, 1/17/2014" Needs more Conan. "
— 11811, 1/16/2014" This book is actually really fun to read. Arnold talks about all the crazy, fun-filled adventures that he has experienced. He shows how driven he is, and that inspires whoever reads his book. Overall I felt that I couldn't put it down! Good Read! "
— Abner, 12/28/2013" Arnold's life story is truly unbelievable. If I just rated the story I would give it 4 stars, but I have to rate the overall book and the writing is simply terrible. That said I still think it is worth a read. "
— Ragan, 12/10/2013" Great book! Interesting insight into his early years growing up in Austria and then dream chasing for the next several decades. As a fan of his movies, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. It did not disappoint. Sure, he's got an ego. No surprise there. But a wonderful read into his life. "
— Matt, 12/8/2013" One thing you can say about Arnold Shwarzenegger is he really likes himself. This book is his attempt to salvage what is left of his reputation. It is funny at times but very droll. "
— The, 11/30/2013" It was surprising good. It changed my opinion of him. "
— Jodi, 11/28/2013" Very thorough! The bodybuilding and political stuff got a little dull but overall an interesting read! The thought process behind the movie making business was excellent. "
— Liza, 10/31/2013" respect "
— Svit647, 8/14/2013" Great book - I now have a new found appreciation for him "
— Chris, 8/8/2013" Arnold pulls out the stops. It's an interesting look into the mind of a modern immigrant. "
