"The second book in this series follows newly elected Sheriff Joanna Brady on her first days on the job with a fresh murder and a major mystery. The book was well written, though I had guessed the major plot point early on, it was still enjoyable to find out how it would be revealed and what else was going on with the major players in the mystery."

" Even if this series could be better described as soap opera than crime drama, I am enjoying each of them as I read them. In this one, Joanna is elected sheriff - a position her deceased husband was seeking - and even before being sworn in, she becomes involved in a murder investigation. By the end of the story, she has solved the murder and started to learn the police "business" earning some respect from her subordinates. "

" This was a great book. If you like murder mysteries and female protagonists, this is the book for you. Joanna Brady just lost her Deputy husband, she has decided to run for Sheriff despite her daughters vote of no confidence. As soon as she becomes sheriff, she needs to solve two murders. Set in southwest Arizona. "

" I read the series set in the Tohono O'odham nation and it was very good, so I thought I would check out the Joanna Brady series. The writing was simplistic, the characters were not very well developed (nor do they behave in a realistic way), and I figured out "whodunit" somewhere around the halfway point. The parts about Joanna Brady taking on sheriff's duty are the most engaging. Maybe this book's purpose is more to set the stage for future stories, because it didn't keep my attention as far as storyline was concerned. "

" Good mystery. Joanna Brady is elected sheriff. Not only does she deal with a department of men who don't believe a woman can do the job, but two murders are committed in the town. "

" Sheriff Joanna Brady is new to being a police officer as well as a sheriff except she has two homicides already and it is only her first day. The mystery is good twisting many possible suspects until the reveal. As the series continues, we learn more about Joanna and her daughter Jenny as they continue on their life without husband and father. "

" This is the 2nd in a series about Sheriff Joanna Brady of Cochise County, AZ. The first book "Desert Heat" found her contemplating running for office of Sheriff and in the beginning of this one she does and gets elected and deals with her first homicide and existing staff members who have reservations about working for a woman. The first book was much better and moved along right from the get-go. I found this one too slow and not enough action. The 3rd one is "Shoot/Don't Shoot" which I will still probably take a peek at but if it doesn't improve I am moving on. "

" This is the second in the Joanna Brady series, set in Arizona. These are easy stories to read and entertaining. They are not high brow type of mysteries but I am enjoying getting to know the characters and plan on reading more. Read this one in one day, only 260-75 pages. "
