Acclaimed author Margaux Fragoso explores her childhood experience with a pedophile with painful honesty. Fragoso had met Peter Curran when she was only seven and he was 51. Desperate to escape being around her mentally unstable mother and her alcoholic father, Fragoso spent increasingly more time at Curran's home. Soon, Curran would guide their relationship into sexual territory-a relationship that ended with Curran's suicide 15 years later.

"Everyone should read this book, which--if it wasn't for James Frey--I'd give 5 stars simply due to the content, but since it is a memoir, and thanks to James Frey, it gets 4.5. READ THIS BOOK, then give it to a friend telling them to give it to someone after them and so on and so on..."

" This was a disturbing memoir about a pedophile's relationship wih a young girl. Amazing how this relationship flourished for 14 years. People suspected, but no one stopped it. Upsetting how this child lost her childhood. "
— Donna, 2/13/2014" Non-fiction. Disgusting. Finished this book but it was difficult. Just too disturbing, but I give author credit for the guts to tell it and to overcome it. I read it as a recommendation. Would not recommend it to anyone and may smack the person that insisted I read it. Ha! "
— Vicki, 2/6/2014" Very disturbing. Unrelentingly honest. An uncomfortable read, but I'm glad I've read it. "
— Voracious, 2/3/2014" Very well-written, but perhaps I have read too many "abuse" stories because I did not find this as mesmorizing as I had hoped it would be. I got tired of her cyclical pattern (mother-father-Peter) and toward the middle I just wanted it all to end. "
— Sam, 1/26/2014" Disturbing and compelling "
— Beth, 1/26/2014" This is an amazing memoir. It had to have been difficult to write, but it doesn't feel as if it was. "
— Kim, 1/25/2014" An intense memoir by a survivor of child sexual abuse "
— Maureen, 1/21/2014" A searing and unflinching memoir from a remarkable young woman who survived a 15-year relationship with a pedophile. "
— Kmargaret, 1/19/2014" Horrifying page turner. Heart-breaking but well-written account of the author's fourteen years of child abuse. "
— Victoria, 1/1/2014" A very interesting look into the relationship between a pedophile and his victim. One can always find a way to justify doing whatever it is they want to do. "
— Tracy, 11/19/2013" Disturbing memoir - couldn't put it down. "
— Janice, 11/2/2013" Woa. Double Woa. Amazing story. Inside the mind of a pedophile. Fascinating. "
— Kelley, 10/22/2013" This book was difficult to read, but so very well written. A woman's memoir of her 14 year "relationship" with a pedophile. Left feeling squirmy but also with wonder at the strength of her spirit and persevering intellect. She has created something astonishing. "
— Kelda, 10/1/2013" Listening to this one. So thought-provoking, but definitely not for everyone. "
— Katherine, 5/24/2013" Could not put it down. I felt kind of guilty and dirty for being so intrigued by the story. There's not as much closure on the situation as I would have liked, but I guess that's kind of the point. "
— epstuk, 2/13/2013" Creepy that this is true...hard to finish reading "
— Lana, 10/29/2012" Disturbing subject, but well written. Maybe a wake up call to parents. "
— Danyll, 9/20/2012" very well written but very disturbing. "
— Amy, 5/7/2012" The whole time I was reading this, I kept asking myself - "Why am I reading this?" Then I continued reading. A very uncomfortable - yet necessary - memoir. This book is the redemption and I hope Fragoso has healed just a bit more by offering her story to others. "
— Katie, 4/30/2012" An interesting read, I really enjoyed it. It's different reading a non fiction book, where these things were actually experienced. To see the workings of a pedophile, how he's so convincingly manipulative with actions and words. I couldn't put this book down. "
— Sabrina, 4/28/2012" This was well written, but a little raw and graphic for my tastes. Not for the faint of heart. "
— Heather, 3/21/2012" I DID ENJOY THIS BOOK,ALTHOUGH I FOUND IT EXTREMELY DISTURBING IN MANY ASPECTS~ "
— Jaki, 5/31/2011" I think there may be something wrong with me because I always seem to fall into the trap of believing the pedophile, of sympathizing with them, of thinking that they're right when they say that they're not wrong, the rest of the world is. Man. "
— Chanda, 5/23/2011" 2011<br/>Don't read this unless you seriously want to know what it is like to grow up as the victim of a pedophile. Well written. "
— Mary, 5/14/2011" very well written but very disturbing. "
— Amy, 5/9/2011" Margaux Fragoso was in an abusive relationship with a sexual predator for 15 years, from age 7 to 22, and now some 10 years later she writes her memoir about what it was like. It appears that the author has moved on with her life, as apparently she is now married and has a daughter. "
— Lori, 4/30/2011" Very disturbing. Unrelentingly honest. An uncomfortable read, but I'm glad I've read it. "
