Throw Out Fifty Things is truly an eye-opener. According to Blanke, our lives are so filled with junk from the past—from dries up tubes of crazy glue to old grudges—that it’s a wonder we can get up in the morning, never mind get to work, care for our children and parents, and just put one foot in front of the other. Blanke wants to start a movement across America of people throwing out fifty things (magazines count as only one!) that will help liberate us from the stuff—both physical and mental—that clutters our lives. It’s the physical stuff that keeps us from being happy and calm in our house—not to mention keeps us from finding our keys in the morning! And it’s the clutter in our mind that drags us down and holds us back from living the life we want to live. Blanke takes us through each room in the house and helps us get rid of ‘toxic’ possessions that remind us of failed relationships, bad jobs, etc., then she’ll help us figure out what to keep so we can move forward and find out who we really are!

"At first I was a little hesitant to pick this one up, but I'm glad I did. The day before I read the book, my husband and I had donated a few boxes of stuff to Goodwill so I wasn't sure I'd be able to complete the task, but boy was I wrong! I enjoyed her antidotes and stories from her clients. It wasn't exactly life changing, but I enjoyed her motivation/decision making techniques. She teaches how to not only clear out the physical clutter, but the mental clutter as well."

“Throw Out Fifty Things is the perfect road map to help you lighten your load. Leave it to a friend like Gail—wise, funny, practical, and so very organized—to empty my closets and clean out my shelves, while soothing the spirit and soul, too. This book is a keeper.”
— Linda Fairstein, New York Times bestselling author of Lethal Legacy“A rousing call to total transformation—one mismatched sock at a time.”
— Publishers Weekly“Banke has an especially resonant voice—kudos to the virtuoso engineer who knew exactly how to capture and shape her melodic sound. The author’s personal decluttering anecdotes give this advice a down-to-earth, inviting quality that makes her entire message irresistible.”
— AudioFile“It is an unsurprising as it is exciting that Gail delivers a pragmatic guide for not just uncovering, but discovering your best ‘self.’ Gail’s wisdom inspires us to shed the physical and mental clutter that too often weighs us down, not just as individuals, but as communities and societies, in our common quest to find and fill our true potential.”
— Bob Graham, former governor of Florida and United States senator“Throw Out Fifty Things is a refreshing book full of practical tips and helpful insights. The title is the simple principle. Applied at home, in your career, in your mind, or in your business, it helps you get rid of the clutter that blocks success. Perhaps most astounding is how relevant the insights are to leading a business today.”
— Peter Loescher, president and CEO, Siemens AG" I've read the last of my make-a-list-and-get-organized type of book. This one had been hanging around a while, so I figured what the hell. Cute, light, glib, well-written -- and essentially useless. The Virgo in me has finally said "enough." "

— Vickie, 11/16/2013" Encouraged me to clean out my closet and finally put clothes I didn't need into storage. My problem is now I have tubs of clothes in my dining room...waiting to be taken down to the storage space. Still, an improvement! "
— Jen, 9/29/2013" Simple, practical look at de-cluttering your home. Nothing earth shattering in her advice. Throwing out the "mental" clutter was at times a bit touchy-feely for me, but I still liked the stories she told and her positive attitude. "
