“A talented cast of narrators enhances the diversity and believability of this story…The narrators’ pacing, accents, and, most particularly, emotional tones add layers and meaning…The audiobook is structured to reflect the fifty-four-minute duration of Tyler’s rampage. During this time, the narrators’ emotions intensify, and their character portrayals deepen.”

Quotes

  • “Strong storytelling pulls readers into a school shooting, leaving them amongst the gunman’s victims in Opportunity High’s auditorium.”

    — RT Book Reviews (4 stars)
  • “Will hit close to home and is best suited for older teens.”

    — BookPage
  • “The story makes effective use of flashbacks that lay bare the pain and deception that have led up to the day’s horror…[A] compelling story of terror, betrayal, and heroism.”

    — Kirkus Reviews
  • “Love, loyalty, bravery, and loss meld into a chaotic, heart-wrenching mélange of issues that unite some and divide others. A highly diverse cast of characters, paired with vivid imagery and close attention to detail, set the stage for an engrossing, unrelenting tale.”

    — Publishers Weekly
  • “The four main narratives are joined by text messages, tweets, and blog entries interspersed throughout, allowing for more viewpoints and commentary without narrative clutter. Although the work is devastating, it offers a small moment of optimism and closure at the end without resorting to an incongruous tidy ending.”

    — School Library Journal
  • “Every word hits frighteningly close to home and is tragically too familiar. This book will leave you asking questions that we as a society should have answered a long time ago.”

    — Julie Murphy, author of Side Effects May Vary
