Publisher Description

In the depths of the Maine woods, the wreckage of an aeroplane is discovered. There are no bodies, and no such plane has ever been reported missing, but men both good and evil have been seeking it for a long, long time. What the wreckage conceals is more important than money: it is power. Hidden in the plane is a list of names, a record of those who have struck a deal with the Devil. Now a battle is about to commence between those who want the list to remain secret and those who believe that it represents a crucial weapon in the struggle against the forces of darkness.

The race to secure the prize draws in private detective Charlie Parker, a man who knows more than most about the nature of the terrible evil that seeks to impose itself on the world and who fears that his own name may be on the list. It lures others too: a beautiful, scarred woman with a taste for killing; a silent child who remembers his own death; and the serial killer known as the Collector, who sees in the list new lambs for his slaughter. But as the rival forces descend upon this northern state, the woods prepare to meet them, for the forest depths hide other secrets.

Someone has survived the crash.

Something has survived the crash—and it is waiting.

"Charlie Parker's dark world. This is the eleventh novel in this series. John Connolly is a fine writer. The fallen angels are here as are the Collector and the Hollow Men. Charlie's pals Angel and Louis are in on the action as usual. If you've not read one then I'd say try the first one and see if they are for you. These stories are not for all, but they are very good stories."

Quotes

  • “Strongly recommended for plot, characterization, authenticity, angels…horror, humor, and humanity.”

    — Library Journal
  • “This story inspires both a shudder or twenty and the vaguely realized idea that as far out as Connolly’s stories can sometimes be, there is always the possibility that he could be onto something.”

" This novel is fast-pacede, action-packed and relentlessly addictive. The characters will stay with you a long while. John Connolly is an Irish wordsmith with a growing reputation on both sides of the Atlantic. His writing is dramatic, compelling and seamless. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, don't miss this young author. "

" After the previous Connolly book, this one was a refreshing change. Charlie Parker was back to (almost) full strength. Angel and Louis have fully fleshed out parts, not the short cameos in the previous book. I felt it kind of lost its way in the middle, but there is lots of action all through the book. Well worth taking the time for. "

" I love the Charlie Parker series! Connolly always leaves me wanting more. For those unfamiliar, this is a crime series with a spiritual, other-worldly twist. You could really pick up any book in the series but you'll want--need--to read them all. "

" The Wrath was more of a drama. I love the Charlie Parker series, but this one seemed to drag. It had its moments and it did explain a little more of the fallen angel history. The core plot line was very interesting, but took too long to resolve. "
