" This book started out slow and I was not looking forward to it, but it began to make sense and it was a good summer read. "

" This is a difficult book - the topic is dark and the characters are in enormous pain. But Hegi is such a wonderful writer, that I left this story with a deeper undersatnding of mourning, patience, love, and forgiveness. "

" This book had so much promise, it was narrarated well, the storyline seemed great, but boy did it disappoint. It did not flow, it would end chapters mid thought, is went on and on forever on the mundane. I really was disappointed in what I felt was a waste of a great storyline. "

" This is the first book I read by Hegi, and was pleasantly surprised. I like her writing style, and I thought the way in which she changed the narrator enhanced the storyline. "

" The author tried to tell the same story through the eyes of three different characters and it just jumps around too much to follow sometimes. I also thought the heavy handed political commentary didn't add anything at all to the story. I kept reading, hoping the story would come together, but I got to the end and felt like I wasted my time. "

" If you are a conservative person you probably do a lot of reading, and not always "conservative" type books. However, this book turned me off because the author felt it necessary to plug her hatred of politically conservative-type people, and especially her hatred of George Bush, the Iraq war, etc. If you are a writer, you really are doomed if you plug your politics with your novels. In short, it makes them SUCK. "

" I'd really like to give this dark twisted litte story 3.5 stars, but alas, not an option. My first completion of an ursula hegi book. make me want to read more of her. "
