From Dr. Tim Flannery, one of the world's foremost experts on conservation and ecology, comes a book of immeasurable importance. Hailed by Kirkus Reviews as a "powerful and persuasive" work that is "sure to provoke strong reaction," The Weather Makers is among the finest examinations of climate change ever written. Originally skeptical of global warming, Flannery spent years compiling his own research. What he learned is sobering. Human beings are weather makers whose production of carbon dioxide is polluting the planet at a devastating rate. Species are disappearing, the natural world is changing, and weather events, like Hurricane Katrina, are becoming increasingly disastrous. But as Flannery shows, there are cleaner ways to live-and doing so is the only way to avoid global catastrophe. Alarming but filled with ideas that inspire hope, The Weather Makers could be the most important book you ever read. "At last, here is a clear and readable account of one of the most important but controversial issues facing everyone in the world today.

"An accessible account of global weather and how this will be affected by climate change. Based on science rather than opinion this book is depressing to certain degree given the scale of the issues raised however it does provide ways for everyone to reduce their carbon footprint and thus their contributions to climate change. Flannery even goes on to discuss the success of the global CFC ban and how this success can be used as a template through which the global community can tackle climate change together. The bottom line of this book is that yes climate change is a huge issue but as a global society we are in a better position to tackle it than ever before"

" Best info I've seen so far on Global Warming. "
— Jeremy, 1/30/2014" Very educational, yet entertaining at the same time. Each chapter is geared toward a specific topic, from mountains to coral reefs to the golden toad. Whether your a cynic or an advocate of climate change, this book showed me that everybody's life will be affected in one way or another. "
— Amanda, 1/14/2014" At times I found this difficult to read as it is rather scientific. However it was eye-opening and educational. "
— Holly, 1/5/2014" This book is pretty much all you need to know about climate change to start making informed decisions and meaningful actions. Read it and re-read it. "
— Micah, 12/31/2013" Very understandable description of global warming and its effects "
— Ed, 12/28/2013" immensely readable discussion on how humans affect the weather "
— Victoria, 12/9/2013" If you have any doubts about global warming, this well-respected professor from Australia will remove them and replace those doubts with substantial science that even a layman can understand. "
— Jim, 12/3/2013" Just more proof and encouragement that global warming is real and happening now. We have to do something. "
— Antonia, 12/2/2013" Comprehensive review of things climate change "
— Cj, 11/19/2013" Good read with real science about climate change "
— Conrad, 10/30/2013" Very enjoyable overview of climate change issues. "
— Stephen, 7/25/2013" One of the better books on global warming. It details the science around man's impact on Earth's weather in a compelling and accessible way. "
— Jeff, 6/30/2013" Very informative but a little difficult to get through. If you don't like fact-heavy scientific writing, I'd recommend watching An Inconvenient Truth instead. "
— Paige, 6/21/2013" Meh. Good if you want an all over the place introduction to climate change. One of the stars is for the picture of the tiny frog with its mouth open to reveal an even tinier frog sitting in its belly. "
— Michael, 3/15/2013" Provides good background and arguments surrounding the warming of the earth by human influences. "
— Abby, 1/3/2013" It's too bad that no one listened when this was published and the deniers are only now starting to see. The scary part is what will a steady climate look like in 2050. If we level out by 2050. Today I think 2075 might be a better date for leveling out. But again what does 'Normal" look like. "
— Fred, 8/3/2012" We are all going to die "
— Andrew, 6/4/2012" Great explanation of atmospheric systems, climate change, and climate history. But ultimately fairly depressing. "
— David, 5/19/2012" Makes climate change science readable "
— Bernie, 11/26/2011" also a must read. Important and well researched. "
— Diana, 11/13/2011" Good book - a little long-winded, not enough background information "
— Miki, 5/18/2011" Just more proof and encouragement that global warming is real and happening now. We have to do something. "
— Antonia, 5/14/2011" Good information about the human CO2 impact over the climate by global warming. "
— Eduardo, 4/8/2011" Flannery is both a world-renowned scientist and fine prose stylist. I learned a ton from this book. "
— Scott, 2/22/2011" Highly accessible and aimed at a wide readership. However, if I was to recommend one book on the challenge posed by climate change, it would have to be Jared Diamond's 'Collapse'. "
— Derek, 2/19/2011" A great primer for those wanting to get behind the news headlines and understand what climate change is really about. "
— Matt, 1/24/2011" We are all going to die "
— Andrew, 10/21/2010" Interesting book if you haven't read much about climate change. Easy to read. "
— Julie, 9/14/2010" If you have any doubts about global warming, this well-respected professor from Australia will remove them and replace those doubts with substantial science that even a layman can understand. "
— Jim, 8/8/2010" This is the most coherent book I've read about the climate "catastrophe" we face. Flannery makes enough sense that I understand why there's so much confusion. He also makes some sensible suggestions for each of us to follow to do something constructive. "
— Carol, 5/19/2010" Learned a great deal about a sci I knew little about:climatology. The second half has some new ideas to me about what we can do as humans to improve our chances. <br/>I recommend as a first read about global warming. "
