"I loved this book, a great portrayal of the difficult life of settlers/ranchers on the Texas Panhandle Plains, facing the threat of Kiowa Indian attacks. A great story, just as the author's The Searchers is. The ending to The Unforgiven left me feeling spent. I will have to see the movie now!"

" I mostly liked this book because it was a western and I recently have started liking books about the west. "
— Tristan, 9/12/2013" A bloody and gripping epic. "
— Wesley, 11/14/2012" Very good book. Almost better than the movie. LeMay is a good writer. "
— Larry, 3/24/2012" Very good book. As good as the movie was, the book is much better. ( as usual) "
— Jacob, 3/16/2012" great read ... I really liked it! "
— Marcia, 11/24/2010" Written in the early 50's about life on the Texas prairie. It showcased the difficulties with severe threats and the human spirit. "
— Jerry, 11/20/2010" Not so impressed. It's an easy read western that I'm sure was popular in the 60s, but it's very dated. Not a politically correct book or what I would call an accurate depiction of the times. "
— Rustin, 8/29/2010" Fun western fiction- I liked it because it takes place near where we lived in Oklahoma and talks about the Chisolm Trail which is something we learned about at a museum while we were there. Fun to switch things up a bit. "
— Jami, 8/5/2010" The only western on my bookshelf. Complex family relationships set in the old west, has alot to say about prejudice & loyalty. Wonderful book! "
